The best way to age a tarot deck is ... using it.
Otherwise, sandpaper is a nice tool and should become your friend. |

I've heard that some folks have met with success by working a bit of brown shoe polish into the cards after a light sanding, then wiping off the excess. (I haven't tried it myself, so caveat emptor.)
Also, depending on the deck you're using, you might want to give a bit of extra attention to sanding/erasing away the copyright notice (I think the Rider-Waite cards have them in the lower right margin). Most people will probably never notice the copyright, but I don't imagine it'd take that much extra effort to remove it.

I hve to second Jake Boon.
We are here to perform spooky magic, usualy people who come to your performance just want to be entertained. I think no one ever interrupted a magician while sawing a lady in half shouting out the secret. Perhaps thre will be one person who knows more about Tarot cards, so what? PErhaps he tells the spectators around him the secret to show that he is a wise guy. And then? For some of the others he is a nerd because he destroys their experience. Some just do not want to know the secret. I think you just have to be aware hat you are doing there. I have to admit that I even heard of Tarot readers who want to use my deck for professional Tarot reading using the markings as a secret weapon. That was never been intended by me!!! The cards should have been used for entertaining purposes.

Christian,
Ever considered putting out a deck with the names in Latin, or perhaps French, the language of nobility at the time, rather than English and German. To me it would seem more in keeping with the "age" of the cards. Marc |

Yes, I was thinking of a "blank" version where I can print the necessary language onto the cards. Don't worry, they would still look old and authentic. By now the demand for such a kind of deck was not that big so I am not sure if this idea will ever see the light of day.
