It's a little too bulky.

The Raven is worth any time needed to perfect. As mentioned above its what you put into it? I have 2 of them and love using it , I am constantly trying to innovate methods/moves that work best for me. Just my Amateur opinion.

Yep. Always get great reactions everytime I use the Raven. Well worth the short amount of time needed to get it smooth.

Does the Raven work on large coins (slightly bigger than a 50 cent peice)?

Also, can the trick where you turn one coin into another coin be done in short sleeves?
Thanks.

I love the raven, just throw in a couple of extra bucks and buy some steel core coins, and you got your self more then that nickel shell. Could be used for your attention grabber or your jaw dropping ending

Angio, I've used bigger coins than a 50 cent piece without any problems at all.
When I was a student, I used to teach English in Sicily during the summer and did this all the time. It was the only trick I did that consistently made people run away screaming. I didn't know it had been exposed on TV - What a shame. |

Angio - Yep, dollar size would work. You can do this with short sleeves but you sacrifice the empty hand move & the different set up for short sleeves favours a left hander IMO.

I once had an inside button in my sleeve of my suit jacket where I would hook-up to, making it easy and quick to set up. I have now found that having it set at the right length I can grab the certain part with one hand in just a few seconds. I can even show my hand to look clean before performing with it with the gimmick ready to go. It's a great utility imo. Dan

In 1960 I purchased a trick called "Scoop" by Ken Allen, the guy who made "Jumping Gems". Scoop was the vanish of a nickel place on the hand of the spectator, and with only a way over the coin, the coin disappeared or changed to a penny. No pull, no strings, no tape. The hands could be shown empty immediately after the vanish.
For years I worked on improving it. The Raven was the solution that turned the original into a mircle. The Raven is a great vanish of a coin and is a real mircle. Of course you must work with the device, it is not a pick it up and do it trick. The best way to do this is to practice and get all the ideas and imformation on the equipment you can, and then pick the methods that suit you best. |

IMHO (not owning one yet) Bill the biggest problem with the Raven are all the ham handed kids who were posting videos of them doing it badly on you-tube.
Still I guess they represent sales so its not all bad I think I understand the general principle and its a neat idea. I don't have a place in a routine for it yet, but Ive got it in the back of my head for when an opportunity comes along.

When you use it right, no one suspects a thing. I have had mine for about five years and have never been busted with it. Even with all the exposure the Raven has received, I still perform with it successfully.
One routine I have used it for involves vanishing four coins. After making the first three vanish, I make the last coin vanishes right in the hand of the spectator. The first three vanishes astonishes them, but when the fourth vanishes right from their own hand, it's jaw dropping. I never use it to make a penny turn into a dime, or use the Raven as a stand alone trick, although it can be used that way. I prefer to use it in a routine, and make the impossible more impossible. Their are so many uses for the Raven, but my opinion is it's best utilized when incorporated into a routine. There are also three different ways to hook up giving you more possabilities.

As with ALL magic it really does take the right set of hands. I have the Raven and have gotten away with a lot using it. Set-up? Sure it takes some---but heck if you are about to do a fantastic effect isn't it worth the time? I highly recommend this effect for an opening effect. That way you are set and ready to go and once your done ditching should be no problem.

Hi everyone!
Well, like any other effect, it's not for everyone, and that's good! One thing I wanted to mention... The "Reel" Raven is junk. Someone gifted it to me, and I understand why. The original is the best, and I've never had a problem. In fact I converted the Reel Raven into the original, just to have a spare. This is one instance where "improving" on the original, only cheapened it. Like they always say, "If it ain't broke...don't fix it!" Doug |

I've used it at the end of a Coins Across using a s***med s**ll coin. "Three" coins into spectator's left fist, last one on their right palm. I wave my hand slowly over their's (vanish) and make a gentle throwing gesture to the other hand - all four examineable coins now in the spectator's hand and you're 100% clean.
And for the record, I've done the stand alone no plot David Blaine vanish a couple of times - always gets at least a smile if not a laugh or a scream.

I use to perform strolling magic with the Raven, but I got tired of "attracting" silverware in restaurants and getting stuck to cars in the parking lot.

Heh. I love my PK ring. And used right, attracting (and repelling) silveware can be an illusion all unto itself !
