Just as an aside, This is what I really wanted, and I would buy it (probably several sets) in a second if it was offered. I would want the special backs. |

That really doesn't say much about the quality of the product, for all I know this could turn out to be my most cherished item. |

The thing is, why, if you were giving a serious reading, would you then want to cheat with the "special backs"? I don't understand that bit...each to their own though!
anyway - I'm sure within the right context and framing you can have achieve a lot of things with this deck...

This is the time of year in the northeast (U.S.) that Carnivals are making their way around the countryside. The atmosphere at the one I attended last week was perfect for a reader using these cards. Especially at night. In a tent at the end of the midway. Under the giant weeping willow tree.

With The Carnie Deck, Witches Almanac and Luna, what else would anyone need to show something completely new and unforgettable ?

One reader I know has invested in a lot of really freaky Altered art that she found on ebay, such things as a tabletop tombstone with an old black and white image of a very austere looking woman (presumably the image dates to the mid-1800's when people frequently were photographed unsmiling). I think when you can
control the look of your performance environment and make it really freaky, with things that realy bother people, these cards are really Fabulous! That is how I want to use mine! |

Got them, love them, people don't question them. In fact I have asked people without showing the provenance card when they would guess they were made, and almost every one has said, "some time in the forties?" To dispell the question about why they are scary when I introduce them I talk about how the tarot readers at a certain group of carnivals used to be across from the fun house of haunted house. That is was thought of as a fun way to get a scare, that it was intended to be spooky. Makes everything completely intentional. The common response is that they complement the true eerie feeling that comes from the cards.

You could just say that it was often the case that the tarot readers at certain circuses and freakshows used to sell tarot decks as momentos...
these were from a batch that never got used by a certain circus that got burnt down, and a few were found in an old metal safe a while back...

I do love Roth's and Outlaw's products in general, they do sterling work and the value you get for the ageing alone is superb. But I'm also really glad I held back on this one. I do love the idea of a sinister carnival - very Lovecraftian... And the barely modified death card looks great as it is. The others, the woodblock printed, traditional Marseille c.1800s reproduction with the added very 20thC photographic clown and skulls faces stuck on them doesn't fit great to me. A 60's montage at best. A set of handdrawn major trumps or fortune telling cards would have fitted the bill perfectly to me and wouldn't be that difficult to create.

There is someone who can and will make old tarot cards to fit you. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=14&239
The Carnie Tarot Deck however is an original creation. And fits the bill perfectly for myself and many others as well. They are truly unique and highly versatile. To actually own these, is to know their potential. |

I have gone absolutely crazy over the Carnie Tarot.
Before my first deck arrived, I ordered another as a backup. When my deck came in my wife said,"I am so thankful that you ordered another deck." First time in 20 years she THANKED ME for spending money on magic. I know that these are very work intensive and I don't know when Rick is going to tire of doing them. So if you want one, you had better get on the list, cause you ain't gettin' mine. And that's a promise. To my way of thinking, this is the most useful thing that Outlaw has ever put out. Peace, Parson

How many routines come with the marked tarot cards? For my needs the tarot routines are the most important thing. Thanks.

My carnie arrives in the next 3-4 days... Hopefully. It's going to be my motivation for learning tarot readings.. And then I can do Enriquez's Invisible tarot. What a wonderful plan!

Anyone have the alternative traditional-based Carnie Tarot Deck from Outlaw?
Love to hear what that's like. MindT. |

Does anyone know if Outlaw-Effects have rode into the sunset ???
Earlier this year I ordered a set of Carney Cards from them as I was satisfied with the Magnum wallet I had purchased. However, I knew there was a delay, but, eventally I wrote to ask them where they were as they had not been received. On 21st July I got an email stating that they were 'On their way', but still nothing came. I emailed them again, and on 15th August I received another email telling me that they were being 'sent out tomorrow' ! But, once again, still nothing arrived. I sent another email to them on 18th September and, this time, they didn't even bother to answer. I guess that as it's now the 5th October, I can pretty well say 'good-bye' to my money, which is a shame because I really did like their products. As I'm in the U.K., I guess there's not much I can do unless anyone can enlighten me as to what's going on with them.

Psyshadow, mine's a kind'a similar tale of woe.
I received my Carnie deck way back towards the distant end of last May, and lovely it was too! Only thing was however I was one card short of playing with a full deck. Emailed Rick and he said it'd get sorted asap, so no worries methought. A fair few emails and some false hopes later yet I'm still waiting - the latest communication being just over a week ago so fingers and toes crossed that this time something might just arrive through the door... However, I've quite a lot of Outlaw products and this has certainly not been representative. Whilst there's often delays purchasing from Outlaw nowadays, I figure that this is just due to increasingly large demands for their excellent effects. Rick's always been a straight up dude in the past so I don't for one moment think that he's ridden off into the sunset. I just think he's probably just seriously busy, perhaps to the point of being snowed under? I've every belief and expectation that this'll get sorted eventually. So much so that I have enough faith to have pre-ordered the new Luna's and will shortly buy the new Psi card, regardless of this Carnie experience. I still can't help but wonder though whether Outlaw is becoming a victim of it's own success and the once legendary service is suffering accordingly. |

Hi Jon,
Thanks for your reply. Like everyone else, I can accept delays (though not usually anywhere near as long as this one). But what I can't accept is being lied to, and then totally ignored by the same people who have taken my hard earned money and not supplying the goods. I sincerely wish you well with your purchases but, as for myself, it would need to be something pretty spectacular to restore my faith in a company that lies to you then totally ignores you after taking your money, as Outlaw have done to me. That is certainly NOT how to run a business !
