What the add says The magician asks a spectator to think of an object from a printed list. The selection process is extremely fair. Yet, even before the spectator makes her selection, the magician knows what object she is destined to pick! This is thought reading the way it was meant to be.
The above is the basic effect of Mental Yarn. Direct, stunning mind reading. However, there are many different ways to present the effect. For example, two spectators can assist the magician, each one selecting a different object. Of course, the magician reads both of their thoughts. The trick is suitable for use on stage, close-up or even over the phone or the radio! In fact, Bill Goldman has closed many a contract by performing Mental Yarn on the phone with prospective clients. Mental Yarn has even been performed on the BBC and stunned Millions of viewers! Keep in mind these points: Trick can be repeated with different results No set-up or reset Fits in your pocket, yet large enough to play on stage Extremely easy to do Numerous presentational ideas supplied Supplied complete with booklet of routines, tips and ideas, and three different versions of Mental Yarn. MY review. I really like this effect. You get a nice booklet and three sets of laminated props for three different readings. It is very easy to do and my spectators have been amazed. I did it twice with one spec using two of the sets of props with different outcomes and if freaked them out. The price is about 12-15 dollars which I feel is a great deal for this type of item. |

The basic idea belongs to Ned Rutledge. But yes, this good effect has been around for some time now. I had a friend use it on a radio spot.

You can make up a set of your own cards by using the same information from the cards and translating it into different languages. (Note: invest in an inexpensive laminating machine). This is a very effective mentalism pocket trick that is suitable for strolling and impromptu situations. You'll really like this!

I agree it is a good effect, but it can be easily figured out! I figured it out (which saved me buying it) and I tried it on friend who is very clever and he figured it out, you need to perform it in a way that the stops the participant from figuring it out,
Derren Brown suggests in his book to add extra steps in a trick which are unnecessary so when the participant retraces it in their mind to figure it out they just become confused and give up |

Same thing that happened to Makoto happened to me. When it was shown to me I looked at the card and it all became pretty obvious. Not something I would recommend. Kioku by outlaw is much more solid in my humble opinion.
