Though he didn't win this weeks show, I thought he was the in fact the REAL WINNER in overcoming his handicap! Great show last night. Other thoughts?

I think David could have been a little more supportive and proactive when he first saw Lisa's costume...of course, that was probably 50% creative editing, too. But, he and Lisa really pulled through proving once again that Silly Billy knows kids!
I think Chris Reid did a great job but I was a little surprised that none of the judges mentioned the "h*ll" and "d*mn" that slipped out during his bit. I agree that he should have had a plan to help the boy save face with the eggs. Not all that bad, really, but... Hal did an incredible job producing that first butterfly...and should have stopped there. The fault there should fall onto the pro coach...but I don't think indoor kidshow magic is one of Rocco's strengths. Great idea - wrong venue. Of all people, I'm really surprised that Murray didn't have a stronger recovery for the Wizcote and that he let Kimberly use that hokey basket. Another strike against the coach there. I think things are going to improve with Ant gone. Yahoo!!

I just watched it today on my Tivo. I was excited to see this since they were doing children's shows. I think most did well and I would have liked to have seen more.
Silly Billy did good by keeping it simple and looks like the kids enjoyed Lisa's show. I think they should have pointed out the words that Chris Reed said. I bet they did but we did not see it in the edited version. Any thing like that does not need to be in the show. It was good they let Ant go. Ant is over the top. It was a very bad idea with the candy. It is not even wise to throw stuff out into the crowd, more of less that. It should have been Ant that got hurt and not the children. I am glad he is gone.

I also enjoyed the show and am having a fun time with it. I am actually suprised I am lking it as I really was not sure about the whole concept when I first learned of it. Silly Billy certainly did a great job with Lisa as that really is what David Kaye does and does so well. He understands kids and what kids react to. If anyone could save grace with the ketchup bottle costume, it was going to be him. Lisa did a great job with it and the kids enjoyed it.
I still think a lot of what Ant did was done on purpose. If not on purpose then I am sure the production group certainly did not due anything to stop him from doing it. If so, they would have edited it out. Bottom line is even though Ant is annoying, he provided an element of conflict that made people watch and talk about it. It got people intersted in the show early and once they got more hooked on it, it was much safer to get rid of him. I agree that Chris did a good job and really had a fun character. I think he will go far cause he knows how to entertain. I do also feel he slipped a lot with the swearing at the kids. I am sure he did not do it intentionally but it is his old character from Kid and Play that just comes out in performance cause he used to do it so often. I do think they should have mentioned that a bit more to show that it is not right to do in performance of kids. It will be fun seeing how this pans out. So far it is not that bad. I think it is doing well and Not much is being exposed at all. I think the celebs are starting to see how hard this really is to do and I hope that message continues to be brought out in the show. Surprisingly...or perhaps not so surprisingly...Elusionist is doing more wholesale exposing than I expected to see in the show. An excellent reason to stop sending them any more of my future cash.

Skip. Are you referring to them selling their stuff through the TV commercials as they are doing? Just curious is all. I do not want to get too far off the thread topic here but just was wondering if nothing more.

Sorry, I didn't mean to wander off topic, either. That and the "Free Tricks" that they offer which seem to reach beyond the normal "teach-a-trick" and "over the counter" stuff. I guess I should know by now that it isn't really going to hurt us - but, I can't elaborate without REALLY dragging us off topic. Thanks for the nudge, Kyle.

Not a problem at all Skip. If you want to start a new thread to discuss this, that is totally cool. You can also PM me if you would like as well. I certainly do not mind discussing my views on it. Just wanted to be sure we were staying on topic. =) It's all good my friend.

I really enjoyed this weeks show and was also very happy to see Ant go. Silly Billy did an incredible job saving Lisa with that hilarious costume. I couldn't stop laughing at how bad it was and was really surprised at how well David made an entire routine out of it.
My only complaint about the show is that I wish it was a little more "Dancing with the Stars" and a little less "The Apprentice". What I mean by that is more performance and less drama. And for those who have complained about how the show makes it look like you can learn magic in a couple of days think about the incredible performances that Dancing with the Stars celebrities do in only a weeks worth of practice of another performance medium which I would argue can be much tougher to learn. (Depending on the dance or trick that is being learned.) I also would really like to get to know the magicians a little better. I'm very sorry to see Asi and Simon gone as I would have liked to get to know them better. Poor Asi. You could tell that he REALLY wasn't liking Ant as a student. Mike |

Rockwall is dead on. I do both, ballroom and magic, and even doing a mediocre job at ballroom is very very tough.

Overall though, I am enjoying the show. I find that funny because I really had my doubts about it but figured you can not pass judgement until you have actually seen it. It really is not that bad. I too would likedto have seen a bit more magic and the coaching aspect of it as well. With Ant gone, I have a feeling it may start to gte a bit more serious and such. I am eager to see what happens next week.
I also wonder if any of you guys have been hearing anything from the general public about the show? I am hearing a lot from my fellow magicians but would love to hear how the lay audience is perceiving the series and their thoughts on it. Kyle

I loved Max Maven's response to Ant last night. It was also apropos that Asi got to make him vanish, since Ant had been such a poor student. Good riddance! I like the show so far!

Kyle,
I'm not supposed to tell anybody, but: Silly Billy and the Chupacapra are going on Letterman to make "Chupacapra" balloon animals and do stupid pet tricks. The only problem is that in all the rehearsals the balloons keep popping because of the little plastic Chup teeth that Silly billy keeps trying to glue on them. Hence the expletives and the "bleeping" sound you'll hear on the broadcast. |

Chris,
Thanks for the inside scoop. I will make sure to tune in tonight for that. I mean it is not every day you get to see a Chupacapra doing a stupid pet trick and make animal balloons. So does the Chupacapra have to wear a ketchup bottle costume or what? lol I now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. Kyle
