I thought this weeks show while good showing more magic was the poorest over all. Last weeks was so funny that maybe that is why I feel this weeks was the leser show.

I thought I would answer some of your questions.
The coaches choose their tricks. Murray made a bad choice with the Blendo, but that is how the competition works. Actually all our tricks were decided months before the shoot. They had to be approved by Viacom corporate. I don't mind people making fun of me. I think that my costume (and my name badge) help me stand out from the rest of the crowd. "As long as they spell my name right." You will see more magic in the final episodes. As people get eliminated in pairs, there is more time in the 60 minutes to show more magic and more of us. Hope you keep watching. Remember new episode on thursday at 10. And don't forget to go to VH1.com to see extra footage that didn't make it into the episode. And if you want to see candid behind the scenes photos I took during the shoot, go to http://www.sillymagic.com david kaye

I just saw the cabaret episode and Lisa Walter was brilliant! Mr. Kaye you must be one proud teacher. That set was some of the most entertaining magic I have seen in a Looooong time! Having somebody as brilliant as Scott Thompson play second banana for you is never a bad thing. Even Ant was great!
I just can't get over what a professional, entertaining, and fantastic, set that was by done by a 'lay' person! ...and the blue dress! WOOF! Just phenomenal! Yeah, David !
So nice to see a theatrical, choreographed, well thought-out presentation on the show. Kudos to you. Despite your student being unwilling to follow your lead, you both worked through it and Lisa took the stage by storm. I love magic with a plot. SO much more enjoyable than watching 5,000 dance moves placed around a couple of illusions. Not bad for a kidshow guy (LOL!) Seriously, I have been a customer and fan of David's for several years, now, and know he is capable of WAY more than just children's magic. He has influenced my shows in more ways than I can count. Brilliant David...that was so entertaining, I can't believe she lost, far superior over Thomas...though I thought him being in drag would give him an advantage...
Keep up the great work. |

You can go to the VH1 website and watch the episodes, if you're in the US. Outside of the US it may prevent you from accessing them.

Download the episodes from Itunes. They are only 1.99 each! Much better than just bits and pieces (except for the behind the scenes stuff) on VH1.com! I'm really enjoying this series and am impressed over and over again by David Kaye! Maybe "Psycho Billy" could be your new mentalist character David! The magic keeps getting better too!

David,
If you are still checking back here I'd like to ask a question about the Cabaret show. I too thought Lisa's performance and act were great. I was curious how much of the 'story' was hers and how much was yours? It seemed to be her idea to have Scott Thompson and Ant but not completely clear about that. Just curious, because if most of the 'act' was Lisa's idea, I have even more respect for her! Thanks, Mike |

David,
I must commend you on how you hold up so well against the constant current that seems to push against you in particular. It is evident that unashamedly you love what you do and you don't take yourself too seriously. You realize all-too-well that you are dealing with a bunch of really emotional people (I've never known an actor, magician, musician, etc., that wasn't this way) who are engaged in a competition. No one wants to look bad, yet the very nature of the competition demands that someone be the "worst", regardless of how unfair it seems. They realize that being voted off is always a possibility, but no one really wants to believe it will be THEM. Why? Because THEY are the GREATEST! Contrast your behavior with that of Murray. In a very short matter of time he is storming off and cursing his "student". He can't "deal with it." I don't know him personally, nor do I have anything against him in any way, but that kind of behavior is very unprofessional, to say the least! Being a "professional" means more than performing flawlessly, being the most innovative or creative, and looking good. That tells me that he takes himself way too seriously and that in his mind it is more about how all of this reflects on HIM and not about the celebrity involved that he is endeavoring to mentor; its about being revered as a seasoned or accomplished magician. Jonathan Levit's statement to Kim about a magician's professionalism showing forth in his ability to work through things that go wrong applies all-too-well even here. Kim is undoubtedly a tough nut to crack (no offense intended there), but she has been a strong and confident performer, and I thought she was otherwise outstanding in the cabaret show. The magician mentor losing his cool (which he claims that he stormed off to avoid doing) has cast a bad taste in my mouth for the show in general, because it gives the show a childish flair that is now emanating from the mentor side. I understand that the reality TV people think that this sort of drama makes for a good show, but I beg to differ. It makes it seem more like Tabloid TV, to coin a phrase, or some sort of corny soap opera. That's what I can't stand about so-called "reality TV." It is one thing for the celebrities involved to be getting upset and all emotional, but when the magicians who are mentoring do it...? Hal's statement regarding "Ant shows up" and "things start breaking..." I also thought was pretty interesting. Though I am in no way accusing him, Murray's behavior makes him just as suspect as Ant or anyone else for that matter, and even moreso due to his falling out with Kim and his more perfect knowledge of how the levitating apparatus works. Could it be that his incredulous reaction backstage after closing curtain was mere pretense, designed to actually remove whatever it was that prevented the levitation from actually working? Know any magicians who ditch a palmed object under pretense of searching for or retrieving something else from their coat pocket? Just a thought. In the same spirit of Hal's comment, "Hmmm, Kim has a huge falling out with her mentor (who behaved rather unprofessionally) and her final trick doesn't work and she's voted off the show...I'm just sayin'..." I'm not really trying to stir up any trouble here, believe it or not. I just think that David's character as a man and as a performer is shining brightly, especially in contrast to what happened with Murray. Both of them have very emotional and very capable people that they're dealing with, and both have "butted heads",as it were, with them. David has really shown himself to be a good mentor. I think that his people know he cares about them as people and wants them to succeed, and it shows in how he deals with them. That makes all the difference. As we all well know, one can perform the best magic in the world, but if the audience doesn't like you or can't relate to you, then it just doesn't matter. It becomes shallow and empty, though it looks good! I think I appreciate David now more than I ever have, and I suppose that is what I think I like most about the show. As for Murray, I simply think that he needs to examine himself more closely as a person and as a performer, and I hope his experience with doing the show has caused him to do that and learn something from it. You're never so high atop the ladder (or "escalator" in his case) that you stop learning, right? If you're out there or reading this Murray, I'm saying all of this in love. I'm not attacking you. I wish you the best. Kudos to you, David, for your unfailing professionalism. I think you're an inspiration to many. I hope to see your student at the top in the end. If not, that doesn't change anything as far as I'm concerned... Curtis http://www.CurtisMagic.com
