I made a replacement set by splitting cards. It's actually a great gaff to make if you haven't split cards before, as the, shall we say, hotspot is never in view.
Give it a go! It's not as hard as people would have you believe, and a little practise gives great results.

Les,
I got the trick a couple years ago and it's been sitting in a drawer ever since. Never used it.
If you're interested I could dig it out and give you a good deal on it.
Oh wait, actually I think it is in my "magic to sell or trade" box because I was just recently cleaning out some of the unused stuff sitting around.
PM me if interested.

He does as far as I know. So does CardMaker (who is a member here and dies excellent work) see his post a couple above yours and shoot him a PM.

CardMaker's offering is almost the same as Penguin's price for the full trick, once taking into account shipping and exchange from Euros to USD (or CAD in my case). But he offers blue, which is cool.

Another great option.

Thanks!

Or anything other, like Tally-Ho and what else comes to mind.

That is superb! I am back to card magic for the first time since childhood, and am something of a hoarder, so already I am up to my ears in Bikes, Tallys (Circle and Fan), and Phoenixes. (I am not a pro who needs to crack a new deck for each performance, so my small card warehouse is a bit irrational. But that's another thread for another time.) I don't know yet what I love the most (this weekend it is Phoenix and fan-back Tallys), but I do know that my wife cringes when another box shows up in the post Smile

I think what I will do is wait on the original trick from Penguin, work with it enough to ensure that I really want to have options for various card types and colours, and get back to you, hopefully before the Canadian Dollar dives yet more vis-à-vis the Euro Smile. Definitely interested in Tallys, and if you also work with Phoenixes--seems possible given the ready availability of the cards within your own country--that would be a huge bonus, especially if Card-Shark et al. don't already offer them.

Many thanks again,

Les

Bernd at Card-Maker does indeed do excellent work.
Another top guy in the states is Shawn Evans at Mimesis Magic.
If you're into cards you should definitely bookmark his site.
He is working on a custom order for me right now.

Not to take business away from anyone Smile but I would second orchid666's suggestion to try and make your own gaff's. It does take some practice at first, but not only does it allow you to make your own replacements when necessary, it also allows you to make and try out any idea that you might dream up. Here are some resources on card splitting if you decide to try it at some point:

How To Make Your Own Playing Cards, by Chris Wasshuber (blog article):

Just to note, that last link is not for card splitting, but rather for printing one's own custom cards.

You've convinced me!

I have been saving the two advert cards that come in ever Bike and Tally deck, not sure what to do with them, but tonight I realize I can practice splitting on them without destroying any jokers or lightly used cards that might come in useful so I retain them. Young Blake Vogt gives abbreviated instruction on splitting and assembly in the video for his Fuzion effect. That was enough to get me started--indeed, the tip he gave that one strips more across than down for the first bit to avoid tearing the neighbouring corner demystified a process I had given up on years ago. After about six or seven practice runs on the advert cards I got the hang of it. I do admit that at first I will not be too bold and will go with double-core-layer gaffs, as I am still getting a little tearing and crinkling still in the single layer. If the the somewhat thicker gaffs don't break in well enough with a deck I will have to rethink my approach and get braver.

Thanks for the encouragement. Card splitting and gaff assembly aren't as tough as I though.

I bought the Blake Vogt download from Theory 11, and also found the advice and method extremely useful for the issue of the edge tearing part way through.

Glad it's working out. With the right instruction and a reasonable amount of practice, it's not as difficult as one would think. And there is a certain satisfaction that comes with making a gaff oneself and using it in an effect.

Thanks, I know he’s the guy because he made some cards for me and they were perfects, but he’s currently banned from the site so I don’t know how to contact him.
If anybody knows how to contact cardmaker please let me know.
Thanks

Last I heard — over a year ago — CardMaker (Bernd) was quitting the cardmaking business.
