I really enjoyed it and nicely done. It has a flare and the same impact. A bit of Hans Moretti. Love the creativity.

Are there any plans or books where this can be found? Is this an exclusive right to Hans Moretti? I understand this is the original version as compared to Andrew Mayne's version called "Voodoo Box".

Most welcome Bob. I just really enjoyed watching your performance. I still feel that Hans Moretti's "The Box" was one of the best illusions I have ever seen. This gave me that same type of feeling. Keep up the good work and let us know how things progress.

Although certain people might rightfully claim particular presentations as their own or might have a patented variant of the method, there is no bar against any competent duo performing a cardboard swordbox routine. There are several published sets of instructions and/or plans. As stated elsewhere, Andrew Mayne markets a version called "Voodoo Box". My favourite version can be found on Russ Steven's DVD "Magic's biggest Secret". In addition to Hans Moretti's classic routine other good versions have been presented by Shahid and Lisa Malik and by a young guy called Junke. I don't know where Junke is from but I saw a video of him performing in the street, which is about the best presentation I've seen - It was very fast and he and his assistant used a very small box (both factors which greatly enhanced the impact). |

I'm sure most of the other versions predate mine. I've never seen plans for any other, so I'm not sure if methods differ. I started this prior to joining the Café' so was surprised to find the others. I like to play this in the round, and pass out the swords prior to taping the box. I must agree that Hans Moretti is the master of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fH-PFecys6Y YouTube - Hans Moretti Cardboard box illusion If you've never seen this it's worth the time...even at dial-up speeds. Thanks again for all the kind words, bob

Cool vid. Also a nice touch about her going into the box in a long skirt and sweater - a subtle touch that downplays the impression of the trick being a feat of gymnastic contortion and adds to the mystery.
The ripped version of the costume coming out is a good idea too, but should she be wearing a tattered version of her sweater rather than the red basque on emerging, to keep it as a continuity gag rather than a magic costume change? |

We get both the continuity (torn skirt) and the costume change. What seems to amaze is that she does a change at all. Thank you for the "subtle touch" comment. My assistant may disagree however. While I managed to miss her in this take, we've only done this about 30 times. Sometimes she's not "not there". (Oh, did I mis-understand that?) Thank you for bringing this up. bob
