What is the best effect/routine you know of with a Liquid...

My favorite is AIRBORNE and a mirror glass.

What do you think???

I think the "hydrostatic glass" is a very powerful mystery.

Also, from what I have seen, the "Absorbing News" is a very commercial effect. Every time I've seen it performed, the magician always got a good hand (from a lay audience).

But none of those above effects involve liquid manipulation and this is the manipulation thread. My favorite, as far as audience reaction, is found within my "Shower of Sweets" article in The Wizards' Journal #7, in which an empty ungimmicked water glass, held by the spectator under an empty cloth, first becomes filled with water and then with live goldfish. When I'm not using fish, a follow up of ice cubes in the water is just as surprising. The trick is not to spash and get waterdrops on anything while performing these manipulations.

I have always loved "Sands of Time". If done well with a great routine, it can be such a strong, visual and entertaining peice of magic.

Sands of Time is great. For my favorite, I'd have to go with Jeff McBride's Lota Bowl; it's brilliant! I'd be hard pressed to come up with a better act using a classic magic prop. Smile

Jeff McBride doesn't use a lotta bowl; both bowls are ungimmicked.

I would also have to agree that McBrides routine is just simply beautiful entertainment. What a great piece of magic and is so engaging to the audience. He gives the audience so much more then a mere show of skill only. here is a character and a story and manipulation of music that goes along with it. Really nice.

Not necessarily a favorite, but there is a new item out there called, "Liquid Division" (at least something I've not seen before). I just got one but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. The effect sounded interesting, and the mechanics are pretty cool, too.

Two glasses, each containing a different liquid (such as milk and Coke) are both poured together into a bottle and mixed. The glasses are each covered with cylindrical covers. The liquid in the bottle then visibly diminishes until gone. The covers are lifted and the liquids have separated are again back in their respective glasses.

Not sure how, or even if I will use this, but it sounded ineteresting enough that I bought it.

Horace Marshall's "Atomic Cocktail Shaker". I have been doing it for over 20 years. There is no one else regularly doing it to my knowledge.

Hydrostatic glass performed correctly is amazing.

Vanishing bowl of water can be very flashy and mysterious.

A routine I love is David Copperfield's "Tides" .
