I was in Tibet searching for innerpeace when this thread started, why would anyone post the results before the showed aired? I'm on the West Coast and don't want to see this crap three hours before I watch it but two months?
I didn't read all the stuff posted but I enjoyed seeing the Pendragons on the episode I saw and they were the ONLY performers mentioned to me by people not aware I'm in magic, it sold and that is what counts. I see Charlotte is here and all I want to say is congrats and much success and health to her and Jonathon and I swear she looks ten years younger than the last time I saw her, just beautiful. (note, she was always beautiful but her face looked fuller and she shined on stage) |

The performance was great, the Pendgragons were wonderful! I think the audience was quite impressed. However, the trunk's got to go. I understand it's supposed to be a packing crate, it LOOKS like a packing crate - except the top. Why did it appear black on tv when everything else looks like wood? Char, if you're reading this, go back and review the tape and look at it from the perspective of the viewer.

Has the person who "supposedly beat" the Pendragons been shown on AGT yet?

It should be pointed out that on AGT no one "beats" another act. At the next stage, they just pick a few acts go go home every week. It's not a head to head competition.

Also, many of those same people also know, at least by now, that Shimshi is also a working pro. Now to the lay audience they know no more about one performer's career over the other. So to them, it only looks like one working magician trying to make it big beat out another working magician trying to make it big.

Ok, caveat : I don't usually watch AGT or other "reality" talent shows unless I know there's going to be a great act like The Pendragons appearing . (and even then I can usually catch the clip on YouTube) . The whole conceit of the show is just so phony ... with long-established pro acts positioned as though they are waiting to be "discovered" . The show is not my cup of tea , but I know a lot of people watch AGT , so what are you gonna do ? A gigs a gig. I don't begrudge The Pendragons or anyone else who gets booked on this show.
Actually, I thought the angle that the Pendragon's used to sell their reason for being on the show -- Jonathan's "comeback" , showing that they still have it, are "still alive" -- was a pretty good piece of showmanship. Their performance of the switch is still stunning. They are amazing . No one does this illusion better than the Pendragons. (yes, the pacing requirements of the show took some of the oomph out of of their usual classic performance, but that is dictated by the producers of the show , so not the fault of the Pendragons) That said : I really do think the trunk looked bad. Not because it was a packing crate style. I'm good with that . I understand the motivation. But the darn thing has a clearly defined panel area on the top that is a different color than the rest of the wood grain on the crate. It draws attention to that area. I don't know how anyone could think otherwise. Click here to view attached image. |

I am sorry I didn’t see this thread until now, however, I do have to say this. I have never witnessed anyone in 50 years perform this effect better than the Pendragons.
As to the method, if anyone in this forum doesn’t know the method, then you must be on a different planet, considering it has been revealed in many areas including national TV. So, since we all know the method, and believe me a lot of laymen do also, then why do magicians continue to perform and watch it? I believe it is simply because of Magic Artists like the Pendragons, who are absolutely incredible in their flawless presentation. Even knowing the method, it still seems impossible for the effect to be done in such a flawless, dramatic manner. Honestly sometimes magicians seem to sit around and try to pick a performance apart, rather than to relax and enjoy the beauty of the presentation. Think about that. As for the “lid” of the crate and their reason for using it, my vote goes with char and Jonathan. Since Jonathan is considered a “Master” by his peers, and char has been honored in a number of different ways by the magic fraternity, then who am I to question their decision. Perhaps if I were to ever rise to that title, then I might say I could quibble a little, however, I do not believe I would even then out of respect for their genius. Last but not least…the “Hummer Card”. I lost track after counting 140 videos on the “Hummer” on Youtube. Talk about exposure. Yet with all the exposure evidently it did ok by the voting audience on AGT. What’s wrong with this picture? Char, if you read this, thank you for coming to the forum and you and Jonathon have my best wishes. And by the way, keep the crate in the act! |

I saw Shimshi on AGT last night, and from what I saw (they didn't show the complete audition), he was really good. He did a sawing in half illusion with a clear box. He showed a lot of talent, and I'm sure he will go far.

They showed him slide in the wedges and the hot girl getting out...yeah, he kicked arse, what a performance, I was overwhelmed.
Honestly, they showed a few seconds of the guy how can you determine he had 'a lot of talent' and will go far? What up wid dat? You know the guy or something? If you want talent mention the guy who built the box. |

WOW! Char Pendragon stepping up in the Café and setting the record straight.
That is as cool as it gets...well...next to their impossibly FAST Sub Trunk. I would like to thank both you and Jonathan for the years of great magic and influence you have given the magic world and wish you continued success. Chance Wolf ...oops...was I supposed to comment on the subject at hand? Sorry...to busy enjoying the moment.
