Class act, Char! Both on the stage and here.

I was watching AGT with my teen daughter, and when you took the stage I yelled out, "I know these guys!!!!" I saw the surprised look in her eyes, so I clarified, "No, I mean, I know who they are! They're great!" She has seen a lot of magic, and has seen metamorphosis countless times, but your version blew her away. Well done!

Congrats to Jonathan on his recovery from his (too, too) close call. Best wishes to you both.

Very cool to see Char pop up here on the Café.

I get what she's saying about the trunk having an "natural" look but, I still stand by what I said.

The method to accomplish the illusion was clearly visible ... and I was half asleep, watching this in bed ... sadly alone.

What an honor for Caveat to have the lovely Mrs. Pendragon to slap him around and set him straight. We should all be so lucky. So nice to see you here, and on TV Char!

It seems that recently there has been a lot of speculation about a lot of things here. Good that Charlotte showed up to clear things up.

Charlotte, I have always loved your subtrunk and I always show it to friends who want to see real magic (well not the trunk, but your performance! LOL). It has been an inspiration me. I personally liked the packing crate style trunk in AGT. All the best to you!

Thank MV for the kind words...

Caveat, I hope you have not done your *friend* a disservice.

So I guess I'll ask the question...

Why did you enter America's Got Talent?

I've been a PD fan since the 80's and have met both John and Char. at a couple conventions. May I please say, Charlotte, I love you I have always loved you and I don't care what anybody says, in my book you are one of the baddest women in magic. No woman (and most men) can't hold a candle to you! Together you two have done more for magic than 99% of any other magic team. Your influence is beyond the pale!

Keep rocking –

PS – If you guys are ever in NYC, give me a call, I’ll take you for a tour of the city, on bicycles.

"This current trunk is definately not up to the ones they used previously, and I do have to ask, other than the exchange, what do you think of the Pendragons that you saw there?????"

(Since Char reposted my comment)

Hi there! The above would not seem to be just my opinion, but many others on this thread. When a prop seemingly raises questions as to the method, I don't consider it a good prop. I do understand your logic for the change of trunk styles. Perhaps it was just bad angles, shadows, or lighting, but you have seen how many have raised questions about the lid. I didn't. So in my (humble) opinion I still preferred the old "steamer" style trunk.

The balance of my comment has generated the feedback that you seem to be now enjoying.

Take care and look forward to seeing your next appearances.

P.S. As a note, since not everyone on this board are experts, if they are raising questions about the prop, then your lay public is doing so also.

I had a young (under 16) come up to me as one of my performances and gave me a description of where the t--- was on my steamer trunk sub. I asked how he knew, he said he was not in magic but had built one for a school show. Here's the kicker, he could tell by my foot placement on the top (he was watching from the side). I had not realised I had telegraphed this info. As my trunk t--- locked I did not have to worry about where my feet were, but I did. Guess what, I changed my placement! I listen to everyone for feedback, and then judge it's validity after I have had time to think about it, and digest it (sometimes the feedback may not be to your liking!).

Well I guess we just have different opinions... We have been performing with this trunk for years now... (we also have used our John Gaughn trunk). The reason we chose this trunk in our *professional* performances...for lay audiences at casinos, performing arts centers, high end corporate dates, is because it looks like a trunk. Our buyers who pay us well, do not have the same problem with this trunk as you do. In fact, our John Gaughn trunk raises more skepticism from those paying our fees.

Makes perfect sense to me. (But hey, I'm just a close-up kinda guy.) It's like doing cups and balls with 3 coffee mugs instead of 3 fancy silver cups. Sure, they look nice, and they may not be gimmicked at all, but they scream PROP! The trunk in question looks like something you found at a flea market.

Char, I have no problem with the packing crate (I have one) I just liked the other one better. Maybe you should be addressing those that critiqued your crate, but then again they don 't pay your fees either.

Blair

P.S. Other than the flee market, who has seen a (Chalet style/ magic) packing crate in use in the real world?? I go to a furniture store, I see trunks, I go to a big box hardware store, I see trunks, in all my years I do not think I have seen a packing crate like we magicians use in the real world. - B.

My belief was from the beginning that pro's should not compete. Obviously I hold a different opinion, but I have NO IDEA what they were offered to do so. I have no way of knowing and a blanket statement would be stupid on my part so I am not making one.

I think the Pendragons (aside from having my favorite name in magic HISTORY by the way) have a pretty good handle on what it is they are doing. They have logged more TV time than many have logged show time.

Char, no need to defend yourself. Clarify maybe if you like but no need to defend. Your act has been a bright spot in magic for a LONG time! If you ask me you added legitimacy and class to the show in the first place.

Well said Danny.

To tell the truth, the only segment I've seen of the show this season was the Pendragon’s. It was pure luck, I was flipping through the channels and caught it as it was beginning and immediately stopped. I thought it was excellent. The presentation was great, the timing was on, and Jonathan was there with Char!

As far as the type of box, Charlotte could use a trunk, a crate, a cardboard box, or a box of Twinkies for all I care; I’ll watch and cheer just the same.

That's because they go back to the turn of the century (1900) along with tuxedo tail waring magicians, one legged tables with fringed covers, dove pans , change bags and chinese character decorated boxes....of course Blair you're TOO young to remeber that...I think!!!!LOL

Let's quit calling them "packing crates", then. But, actually, we get a LOT of computer equipment at the data center I manage that is packed in, uhhhh, Sub Trunks much like the ones we use... As a matter of fact, we received a couple of tape silos a few weeks ago, each of which had some of the parts packed in a Sub Trunk... Smile
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...
