Where for the more advanced? steve forte's books look promising but do they reveal it or just educate the reader that this is possible?

Forte's books are instruction manuals for "Game Protection". That means the people they're designed to teach are casino security personal, and any other game hosts that need to know what to look for to ensure the security of their various table games.
Remember that there's no reason to actually teach these casino folks how to DO the moves, only that they exist, and try to get across some of the signs that they may be in use at a table. That said, there is stuff in the books, and footage on his tapes of Forte doing moves that aren't something you'll be likely to see anytime soon in real life. So the answers to your questions are: 1) Yes they're for the advanced student of game protection. 2) They don't LOOK promising, I (and those far more notable than I) assure you that they are promising! 3) Yes, they reveal moves, but don't teach the moves beyond a need to understand what they look like. 4) Yes, they are the single most advanced source of educational material of their type. In a nutshell, there's nothing like Forte's books and tapes anywhere, and there probably won't ever be anything like them. (although the DVD versions that's on the horizon might surpass them with additional information not on the VHS tapes). Depending on your chosen area of study and interest, there's every possibility you can't afford NOT to buy Forte's material..........just don't buy it expecting lessons. The kind of information you may be after isn't tipped, you've got to do your own leg work to figure it out.......and these books and tapes are a brick on that path. |

That’s a cool summery Silver. I may be splitting hairs here nevertheless the tapes I think are not so much for the casino folks but more for home game players protection. That is not meant as a put down of the tapes as they are great and must have. I wouldn’t say the books are more advanced but lets say I think they are more appropriate if the target is a casino or formal private game.

Good point Tommy, and I think the definition of "home games" is broad enough to encompass some of the more serious and organized types of "home games" (or club games) folks might encounter.
But you're right in stating that the tapes aren't solely focused on casino table games. You're more inclined, for example, to run into a single deck blackjack game in a local club than in a Las Vegas casino. The Forte books and tapes (soon to be DVD's) taken as a whole represent (IMHO) THE major work in this area, at least a major work that's available to the general public, and not proprietary in house material available only to managers of large casino chains. |

Z, I knew after I posted that it was a less than perfect example.
My point was less about the availability of single deck blackjack, and more about the fact that some of the stuff Forte covers is more historical and educational in nature than it is reference to current practices. I'm generalizing (rather poorly it seems) to make a point about the tapes and books Z. Perhaps I'm lax in making the point I'm trying to make.......if so.......so be it The real point is that folks who don't buy Forte's material won't ever have any idea what they're missing out on, and won't be able to find the information all in one place, by one author, anywhere else. |

I'd say the majority of cheating moves, scams, etc... are historical and educational in nature. On that point we agree.

Speaking of Forte and blackjack, which is not my game, we have not mentioned this one here yet have we?
Read the Dealer by Steve Forte “(RGE, 1986). The techniques in this book can only be used in casinos where dealers “peek” under tens to see their hole cards. Most casinos don’t allow this anymore, but there are a handful of casinos in Nevada, including a few major properties, where dealers still peek. You also find peeking dealers occasionally in other states, where casino gambling is new. Reading “tells” is not easy, but it is one of the most powerful strategies a player can use if he knows how to do it. This is the only book ever devoted to this unique subject. Forte also reveals a lot about the casino mentality, and attitudes towards players that would be useful to all players—not just tell players.” If you can get an advantage from reading dealers tells, then if I were a blackjack dealer couldn’t I just work with an ally and tell him?

The Dai Vernon revelations tapes are a great place to learn all of those techniques, but you can learn them from many other places too.
Do you consider that the advanced stuff? 8 |

Thank you guys for your kind answers.
About the Mcmillan switch-I don't know how practical it is at the card table. I myself NEVER used none of those techniques in the real world (card game on money) Just for gambling demonstraions and fun.(I belive this is the most beautiful form of sleight of hand) I don't remember Mr Vernon explain the niether the BRUSH nor the riffle cull on his DVD REVELATIONS.(I don't have the book-Just the DVDs) If you have in mind more video sources on this subject, dont be shy.. Magician8 brought up an intersting point: What is the advance stuff? I thought that riffle cull and dealing thirds and centers is the advance stuff. What do you think? Roi |
