I haven't seen this show, but can we cut Derren some slack. So let's see he's hitting a 99% rate on his shows and suddenly he has one poor one and we attack. I wish I had his track record so I can say Nah-nahhan-nah to all that attack.

I haven't seen any of the new series yet as I am a busy man posting on internet forums. However, a friend mentioned Friday's show to me today saying how much they loved it, they made a special mention of the knots. Seems like the usual story of it coming down to personal taste.

Derren's live show in London is completely sold out. He garnered absolute raves from the London critics. His Channel 4 contract was recently re-upped. I suspect he and Andy couldn't give a rat's touchis about the nit-picky comments here.
Nor should they. Bob |

Nit picky comments about a person's act are always a sign the person has been a super-success... IMHO... as there is nothing major to complain about

I enjoyed the recent episode. I think that Derren and Andy and Iian should be commended for continuing to try new things and not just "play it safe" by sticking to a predictable formula.
I've found you can pay a small price here in Canada and download them from itunes in the U.K. - entity

The show was brilliant (one of his best). The girl was awful and just ruined it. I guess the other girl was even worse (there is always another girl...).

Overall, I think DB is amazing, he sets himself very high standards, and in the main achieves them. But that's why the particular show being referred to has stood out. It wasn't up to his usual standard, the ending was very weak, and it didn't hang together particularly well. Could I do better? Not a chance, and I criticise from the point of view of being an admirer of what he has done and does. But maybe the "trick or treat" format has run its course and he needs a new show format?

I liked the last few seconds of that show very much, where you got a view behind the scenes that showed that the safety precautions where in fact much higher than they looked like.
Overall the show for magicians could be seen as quite weak (sees only tricks like Slydini silk etc). However I think with Derren his strength is more in his build up tension, his personality, patter and twists. In my opinion that episode wasn't the strongest but still I enjoyed watching it. |

I saw nothing wrong with his latest show.

I am one of Derren's biggest fans but I think after the brilliant 'The System', the entire TOT series 2 has been kind of a letdown. It is in Derren's wonderful book 'Absolute Magic' (Which got me started into mentalism in the first pl ace) that I read about the entire God vs.Hero philosophy. Now Derren himself is contradicting his own philosophy by trying to be God. The recent episodes give the feeling of Derren not only controlling the spectators' choices and their minds but also their emotions, fears and lives. It is almost that Criss Angel kind of narcissism which has started to creep in.
I hope that I am wrong in believing this or that this changes with Derren's forthcoming offerings. His genius is undeniable for sure. P.S.: Does the audience really think that DB is boring? Hard to digest! |

Hmmm Chanku (Cockney for thanks), from India?
The country where Derren was born. And his mother's name... Chanka...I think we know what's going on here. Some little mentalist, with a new top set of nashers and just a tad of plastic surgery to his jaw, is playing games me thinks.

I'm just catching up with the new series of Trick or Treat and saw the first episode at the weekend.
I watched it at just the right time though, as it's my grandmother's birthday next month and I was stuck for ways to celebrate it. Now, as a special treat, I'm going to make her read encyclopedias for a week then enter her in a pub quiz. Whatever you think about Derren's new series, you can't deny that he has some interesting and original ideas about what constitutes a 'treat'. But in all seriousness, I predict it won't be too long before Derren's TV show comes full circle in the great magical scheme of things, and in the not-too-distant future we'll see him performing weekly in front of a live studio audience, introducing special guests etc. Hopefully one week he'll get one of those dogs on, that dances with it's owner. Maybe Derren himself will do a dance with one. We can only dream.
