If I remember Inagaddadavida was either 14 or 17 minutes...anyway it was the perfect length for me to slip cue the record and head down stairs and down a long hall way...take a leak...hit the candy machine and get back in time to catch my breath for the next weather or news break. It was so all over the USA in radio stations where the on air folks thanked the stars such a record existed. If I hated it it still would have gotten great play. Stairway To heaven rarely got played on my show as I always opted for Whole Lotta Love as my Zep cut of the show.

Too many great choices. However,to my mind the word "epic" connotes something like Emerson Lake and Palmer....

Good one thanks. Doug I believe that In-a-godda-da-vida was 21 minutes long, and was the only cut on the first side of that album.

I remember a few years ago when I was just pulling out from a hotel gig and Inagodddadavida came on the radio. Got me half way home with just that one song. Brought back some great memories. And anytime I am at a bar and the band (usually a hawaiian trio here) asks for a request it is what I yell out. They always laugh and play the opening on the ukulele or whatever they are playing.

It doesn't get more epic than Homer -- as interpreted by Cream. Dig it.

Eric Clapton "Crossroads". I saw him perform it at the Filmore East. He doesn't play it like that anymore today, but the live version from Wheels Of Fire was incredible.

As far as the most epic classic rock song ever goes, I think Guns N Roses have it covered with either
November Rain (the video for that one is epic) Sweet Chile O' Mine Mind you, I once heard Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower described by a journalist as 'apocalyptic'. I thought that fitted nicely. That song could be the one we're looking for.

Thanks Neil. The lyrics are even more bizarre than I had remembered. I love that you can get a complimentary ring tone of it.
