Jesse first released this in 2006. It's being released on DVD now and I think that will help a great deal. I have the original trick and run across it every once in awhile and go "I gotta work on that". I'm dyslexic, so a DVD on this is most welcome.
http://www.blacksmagicgroup.com/cart/pro......ctid=152 Here's the effect in a nutshell: A playing card is freely selected ( no force, any card )it's signed on the face by the spectator and returned to the deck. Magi takes out a real Tic Tac box that has a couple of mints that can be seen inside as you shake the box. Give the box one more shake, and a card appears inside the box! Immediately open the Tic Tac box, remove and unfold the card and reveal the signed selection! ___________________________________________________________________________________ When it first came out there was a terrible demo video for it which caused a fire storm of us wanting a demo that didn't show what the audience perceived was the trick, but the actual trick. I have the original effect and the method is quite clever.

I remember talking to Jesse just after the whole video "scandal" and he said he was just too lazy to keep doing the sleights for the video, as it was hard to get angles right when it a camera watching all the dirty work. I still don't own this, but from what I have heard the method is pretty clever and usable. I look forward to this release.

Adam- I have this effect, and Fresh Mint by Cameron Francis, and much prefer the latter. You have to make a gimmick with both tricks. I had a serious concern about the deceptiveness of the video. There is a good, relatively recent discussion about this in the Right or Wrong section. Putting that completely aside, however, it is my opinion that Fresh Mint is a better approach to the bill or card in TicTac box. Of course, others are free to differ.

I have heard wonderful things about Fresh Mint, and I really respect Cameron. I plan on picking up both as I already have Bill Burner by Ron Jaxon and with all three of these I think a great routine could be created.

I love the "card to impossible location " plot, so I say get every source you can and build a routine on the knowledge you gained.
I think we should give Jesse's new DVD on Intact a chance and see what it has to ofefr.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Actually you can use Fresh Mint in conjunction with InTact to make a really cool (and clean) routine.

Hey everyone! Thanks for the support guys What up Cameron! Your absolutely right... both of these effects together would make for one heck of a routine! And both teach VERY different methods, so if your into the impossible location plot, get both!!
I'm really excited to finally release all of my effects to DVD. It's so easy to learn everything, you just follow along with me through the whole process. I also go into great detail about handlings, and even extra tips... Written instructions can only teach you so much. So I am really excited to present my new DVDs with Black's Magic Group I also have a few new effects releasing this summer too... so keep an eye out at blacksmagicgroup.com! I'll be here to answer any questions about Intact too, thanks so much for the support guys. Talk to yall soon! |

Integrity concerns are always an issue in an industry composed predominately of people who lie for a living (tongue firmly planted in cheek). More often than not I try to give a creator/producer the benefit of the doubt and a-ssume (spell checker always thinks this is a curse word, cracks me up!) they are simply trying to prevent burning eyes from easily determining how to do the effect without actually purchasing it. We all know how cheap we magicians can be, so this is a legitimate concern. So strategic editing or cutting, as I call it, is often nothing more than an effort to protect the secret while attempting to give potential customers the opportunity to enjoy a visual representation of the effect being offered -- and that is both acceptable and proper in my mind.
As you can appreciate, sometimes that works out and sometimes it doesn't. Unfortunately, there is also a trend these days I call "deceptive video practices" that are really nothing more than unethical artists protecting their rear, rather than the effect. That is, the crud they are peddling is so god awful that if they actually showed it nobody in their right mind would purchase it. That, of course, is unacceptable and something we should all stand up against. Obviously, when relatively new artists release effects, it's hard for us as consumers to know which court the artist is sitting in; is he out to screw us over, which many of us have personally experienced as "tricks" proliferate the market by people who think they've hit the financial lottery and are going to be famous, or is he simply trying to protect his work? As an artist becomes more well known and his work appreciated by those of us who collect, admire, appreciate, and practice the craft, we'll come to a-ssume he is on the up-and-up and our natural inclination is to be accepting, accommodating, supportive (which I think we need much more of in this art) rather than protective, defensive, and overly critical. Both are completely understandable. And there is that third category of, well, I just don't like it. That's cool to as we all know one man's trash is another man's treasure. Jesse is truly one of the more creative artists I've had the privilege to not only know, but to work with. His integrity is beyond reproach, and he's never gone out of his way to hurt anyone. Of course, that's easy for me to say because I know him and work with him now. But I didn't, prior to our recent merger. I took the time to find out, rather than a-ssuming the worst. And, to be quite frank, I'm glad I did. Really, the benefit of having someone like Jesse around is that I'm humbled in the creativity department. He is still learning the ins-and-outs of business in an effort to grow, offer improved packaging and presentation, and ultimately to establish a strong supportive base that affords his creative juices the outlet to continue forward to bring all of us cool effects to enjoy and share. Sometimes mistakes are made, but you lift your head up, apologize, and move on. Integrity is being willing to return here (and to other places), take the heat, and use the opportunity to grow. Ultimately, that's what it is about for most of us, myself included. And if Jesse wasn't that kind of man, he wouldn't be working with us. Period. I saw that quality in him and approached him about working together, and I'm proud to have him on our team. After all, our ethos is helping artists become more successful. We are about the "group" not about the bottom line. Money isn't difficult to earn, it just takes time. But I prefer to invest in people, and Jesse is someone that has much to offer all of us. So in partnering with us, we at Black's Magic will go out of our way to a-ssist him (and other artists) in fulfilling their goals while, hopefully, bringing you products you will feel you exchanged value for when you ponied up your hard earned money. I do believe that Intact, like all of his pending releases, are excellent products, well taught and explained, and worthy of inclusion in the arsenal of anyone who enjoys what they see presented in our demos. With each new release we re-invest in our studio, equipment, staff, and education. Each release helps us learn more so we can produce better and better products for you. We won't always hit the mark, but we sure do try. Warm regards, James |

I just pulled INTACT out. I've kept it for the past two years. I forgot how it worked. VERRRRRY clever. I needed to work on it and got busy with other things ( like my Dad ). it's a beautiful illusion. With the right routine and handling, you have an eye candy effect. When's the DVD coming out?
Jesse, when this came out, I got caught up in the demo debate and didn't give your effect the attention it needed. I see by the enclosed directions you gave your e-mail address and were 100% available to help folks with questions. I appologize for not giving you or the effect the respect it deserved. You have permission to punch me in the nose if we meet, as long as we get to have a beer afterwards and go over the handling!
