Has anyone else had a chance to watch this show. I think it is great. Not only are they giving us insight into the shady happenings that are going on around us, but they are enlightening us with their point of views.
Some people I have talked to think that they are extremists, and if you have watched the show you might agree. They appear foulmouthed and unrefined at times, but all the much better to get their points across. And we also get to see a little magic every now and then. I would love to hear your thoughts. I haven't seen them perform in years, like when they first emerged with a PBS special. [Yeah, that long ago]. But I am not surprised by Penn's mouth. When he was at Uncle Jay's roast last November, I was forewarned about the vulgarity that would be happening there. So to put it in words, it was a roast for those older than 21...not meant for virgin ears.

I was told they recently aired a special exposing frauds that talk to the dead like John Edwards. Did anyone catch that special and what did they say about it?

They showed how pre-show work is done. One reader actually went through the early arrivals asking "who are you here to contact" and had her production assistant bring in two sets of parents whose kids were gone.
They also mentioned cold reading, analyzed a videotape of a one-on-one reading, showed how editing can make a session look great even if there were a lot of misses, and showed how wrong a reading can go if the subject doesn't cooperate. While there were some mentions of techniques used in cold reading, I didn't feel uncomfortable with the level of exposure. |

They are on Showtime in the US. Jonathon Edwards was not the only one exposed for their inability to talk to the dead.

Thanks for the review. I don't have Showtime so I couldn't watch it. I never thought Edwards could talk to the dead, so I was curious to their explanation on how he does it. That makes sense. Thanks, Curtis!

Well, as long as "NOT MUCH" is revealed, I guess it's OK!
Whew! I know I feel better.......... Ted (Leondo) [quote]On 2003-03-26 17:33, mattneufeld wrote: Folks: 3. Despite urban myths to the contrary, Penn and Teller do NOT actually "reveal" much of magic's secrets during their shows. Quote:

I know of at least one magician who's totally peeved that P&T reveal the method behind one version of the Crate Escape.

Their show on Showtime is great! I really love the concept of the show and have always loved their material.
As a matter of fact, one of their shows exposed Feng Shui, the "science" of arranging furniture, etc. in your home for more positive energy flow. My wife, a real estate agent, recently took a one-day "professional" course for realtors on the subject. After the class, she was telling me how many people ask for Feng Shui consulting. After seeing the show with me, she thinks the whole thing is BS and is sorry she actually paid for this class. BTW, I still have fake blood from Penn on my autographed copy of Strange Ceremonies. Gotta love Penn's mouth! |

Several posters have made reference to exposing "frauds who talk to the dead".
What's fraudulent about talking to the dead? But anyone can talk to the dead. It only becomes fraudulent if you claim the dead talk BACK to you! |

Peter, I finally realized who you are. I recently bought a bunch of Linking Rings mags at an auction our club had. It's a pleasure to have someone of your stature here with us. Your guidance and knowledge are a huge asset to all our guests. Thanx for your contributions. Your previous post sure speaks the truth. Cheers!

The B****** Show Rocks!!!
A salvation for the mind and no exposure of any kind, except the exposure of modern cons and frauds for the masses. Keep up the good work! As long as such shows will air, we can assume we live in a free world...

I am a great fan of P&T. It is such a shame that they rarely get onto British T.V..
What do you think about this stunt at the Amazing J Roast? Keep Going P&T. Owen |

I think it was stupid, idiotic and offensive to those who were there that firmly believe Jesus is their Savior. No matter what you believe it will go down in history as magic or magician related. Hey - like we needed just ONE more reason for the world to hate magicians. I'm beginning to side with the rest of the world. Magic is looking scum-ier with each new day.
Hey, you asked. |

I didn't even know about this "tv-series" but it sounds interesting.
I coudn't go to their site http://www.sho.com cause it gave this error message "these pages are intended for access only from within the United States" But I readed about all of the episodes from the episode guide: http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/Epi......ason-all sounds interesting.. |

Lol, cheesewrestler. I knew some of Peter's jokes were old but that takes the biscuit.
He's in good company though cracking the same jokes as the Bard. I might start wearing a Donkey's head at my kid's shows and if they don't laughh at that I'll tell them my name. Getting back to the thread I'd love to see more Penn and Teller on the box. |
