On Friday, June 6, 2008 at 7pm--Midwest Magic is proud to present:

Larry Haas, and his lecture--
TRANSFORMATIONS: Creating Magic Out of Tricks

Lawrence Hass is Professor of Philosophy at Muhlenberg College, columnist for MAGIC magazine, and author of the best-selling book, Transformations: Creating Magic Out of Tricks. He is also the director of the award-winning, internationally recognized educational program, The Theory and Art of Magic.

In this lecture, Larry will share his approach to creating meaningful and astonishing performances of magic. He will teach routines from his professional repertoire and use them to illustrate valuable concepts that will make your presentations be more magical. You will learn new magic effects that play well in the "real world" and you will get new ideas to assist your development as a performer.

Quotes about Lawrence Hass and Transformations

Jeff McBride: "Larry Hass is changing the way magicians look at the art of magic.... He is an archetypal storyteller...with...delightful and thought-provoking illusions."

Eugene Burger: "This is a wonderful book written by a very talented performer and a master teacher. It is full of secrets: great tricks and thoughtful scripts....
Prepare yourself: you and your magic are likely to be transformed."

Robert E. Neale: "I have participated in Larry's classroom discussions, heard him lecture to a variety of audiences, seen his performances, read his essays, and joined in the series he has created for his college program, the Theory and Art of Magic. He is an innovator with a superb mix of intellectual creativity, artistic sensibility, and executive talent."

Jamy Ian Swiss (review in Genii): "I recommend that when next you approach your magical drawing board, you take Dr. Hass's textbook with you, and your magic-and perhaps your life-will be better for it."

Jon Racherbaumer (review in M-U-M): "Hass joins the ranks of magicdom's other notable theorists: Robert Neale, Eugene Burger, Tommy Wonder, David Parr, Juan Tamariz, Arturo de Ascanio, René Lavand, and Jeff McBride.... Dr. Hass's stimulating book deserves our attention."

Bill Wells (review in The Linking Ring): "This little book is a rare contribution to the literature of magic. The only thing unfortunate...is that not enough magicians will buy it.... Please put yourself among the fortunate. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

Watch Haas perform at Magic Chicago on Wednesday, June 4 at 7:30 pm in the City Lit Theater (in Edgewater). THEN go his lecture. What better way to find out if he himself can create 'magic out of tricks'?
