Does anyone do the Pop Knots as taught by Michael Finny's DVDs for his Lady Rope Routine? He doesn't do a very good job explaining how to tie up the rope and where to cut it and I keep screwing it up. It's been one of those things where I'll work it for a few hours, get frustrated, quit, and then a few months later I'll try again, and repeat the cycle.

If anyone can offer help on this, I'd appreciate it!

I don't know Finny, but this routine is sweet. Whit Haydn.

The pop knot that Michael Finney uses is the same square knot that is used in the Panama rope trick. It is a square knot that has no pig tail, and has a dramatic ending.

Couple of really nice misdirections and lines.

What style.

Ian
That was the square knot from the "Panama Rope Mystery". He does it with a back hand style differently on the left than he does on the right. He does it so fast that only someone that has his DVD where he actually slows the moves down for you to see what he is doing. After a quick glance I've only been able to find that knot on volume 3 of Daryl's expert rope magic. Thanks for the clip.

Al,

Here's the thing! I HAVE the Finny DVD Set. He teaches how to tie and cut it but NOT very well. He does slow it down but the camera angle that L&L elected to use was not very suitable for this pop knot. I will check out Daryl's stuff and see if that's any better!

Daryl teaches it very clearly on his rope 3 dvd/tape.
I also believe Sonny Holliday uses this on 'The Art of....#1' DVD but there is no explanation. I think he uses more of like a standard cut and restored approach to getting into the panama trick. He also does not do the pop-off thing at the end.

Mike Finney does not make it easy for you to copy his trick, first he does the knot upside down, with the right hand on the right side, and with the left hand on the left side. It is basically a side ways square knot. I actually learned it from my friend Todd Kent who cornered Mike back stage and made Mike teach him the knot. It is also on page 39 and 40 of the Karl Fulves book "self working rope magic" I know how he does it but you live so far away from me.
Good Luck

I gotta get my hands on Daryl's Rope DVD. It seems like everyone thinks he teaches it very clearly on there. Yeah...Mike does teach it and slows it down on HIS dvd set...but it's about as clear as mud. Maybe he did that on purpose? I don't know.

Thanks everyone for your help. It's appreciated.

He does it upside down, and two different ways. I don't think he wants you to learn it. The Karl Fulves book is a $5 item.
