OK ! Went back to the thread that seems to be so important to this discussion.
ONE person, only one, said they didn't like the effect, and that their copy was seemingly made from foam. This thread was short, and had only a few posts, mostly by people who have never seen the effect, or seen it performed. The only reason I jumped in on this current thread was to correct the mistaken assumption that the effect is made from foam, and that it was not a "quality" piece. Both assumptions (and that is ALL they were, not verified facts) were wrong. The piece is well made, and made of wood. It seems that this thread has turned into a discussion of the quality of what Practical Magic builds. This part of the discussion was not started by me. I already knew they built good products. Ted Lashley's original question asked if this was available in the USA. It is. I got mine from Hank Lee, on a week when he had free shipping. What a great deal ! Thanks, Hank. Mark Pettey Naples, FL

Jeremy,
Thanks for your detailed response. It would appear that you and I will have to agree to disagree. Some of the effects that you mention above remind me of the props that were made long ago by Supreme Magic. In there day these were probably thought of as being very unique but the times and styles have changed. For my taste I find these extremely dated and just not very magical looking. jeff |

I'm confused now.
I've just been on the practical magic site and it says the machine is made out of foamex. Is "magical looking" a good quality in a prop? Can't too much detail in a prop be distracting? |

Donald,
You're quite right about its what you do with them. My style and your style may be different...not better or worse just different. Of course, we all think that our thoughts and opinions are right...otherwise we wouldn't have them! Nice to be able to have a civil discussion where we can openly share our thoughts. jeff ps. Still don't like the look of the Magic Wand Machine. |

I checked the one out at the Magic Nook, it looked like a good idea so I am in the process of building one.

I also checked out the "Wand Mender Box" on the Magic Nook Forum... it's a good idea but not something I can have ready to use in a week; and I also don't think it would work well when the kids are about 3 to 5 feet away from me.
Anyhow, if anyone on the Forum here has actually purchased the Magic Wand Machine (or Factory), I'm eager to hear your comments. TED |

Ted,
Although some are intent on bashing this trick sight unseen, I must add that I used it today on two shows and it got enormous laughs and shouts. PM me. I would be glad to share how it has worked for me. Mark

I see Hank lee calls it: Magic Wand Factory
And Practical magic call it: Magic Wand Machine Is there a difference between them? Maybe that what is all the fuss is about? I saw one at a convention and it looked like wood to me. I'm thinking about getting the one Hank Lee has. I just want to know, and I'm sure it does: if it get reaction!? ACE

ACE:
I believe the two items are the same, because not only are the designs and colors an exact match, but Hank Lees states it is "imported from Europe." This makes me believe there is only one manufacturer of the Magic Wand Machine/Factory. I don't know why Hank Lee changed the name. Perhaps someone else has more info on this! TED |

OK just my two thoughts on that machine. It is build in Germany the factory called http://www.future-magic.de He is a very friendly guy and in my opinion one of the best builders here in Germany. He also builds the Comedy Die Tube, Hugo, Ferdinand, Zig Zack Rocky, Dice BOx and so on.
He's material is not wood it is indeed some kind of foamex but in very good quality. I have many effects from him like the dice box and nearly use it in every show, I already have it 8 jears now and still in great conditions. To the wand machine. The wands a made from wood. The idee is great and the prob is hugh so everybody can see this on stage but for travelling around it is in my opinion a little bit to big. The kids like the effect and its great as a starter and for warm up. So if anybody as anymore questions just ask me. Markus |

Foamex is very light weight. It's a kind of compressed PVC, so it's strong, flexible, durable etc. Hope this help you.

The one I saw at the convention looked real nice. If it is a lighter material, that is good for carrying.
magic-markus: do you actually use it a lot? And does it get good reactions? I'm wondering if it is something that could be done in every show. And birthdays, or is it too much to carry in a living room? I have to keep the show fast paced at bithdays. My school and summer camp shows can be drawn out with bigger effects like this. I'm wondering if I get it, if it will just sit on the shelf. I got a Chinese Washer machine, same type of effect, you know with the socks, it was too cumbersome, I never used it and sold it. Besides I like soft soap better, and don't want to use both in the same show. Back to the wands. I do all the wand gags near the end of my show. So this should be done near the beginning. Then I can pull out the break-away wand, pretending it is the one I made earlier. Then I do the silly wand, spring wand, the flipple tipple wand, the nesting wands, etc. Do you think this premise might flow together and work? Or I could just stick to using all the gag wands. thanks ACE

It also said it cranks. It does make a loud cranking sound?
Do those wheels turn? thanks ACE

I use it on bigger events because for living room partys, for me its to much to carry around.
Yes it makes a loud cranking sound, the wheels don't tourn. You can just update the wands if you want to just a little change inside the box and you can use every wand you like. markus |

A question for any of you who have actually used this prop:
I've seen photos of the "Magic Wand Machine/Factory" with it standing upright, and other photos of it laying on it side. In actual performance, how is the prop supposed to be placed? TED |
