I live in Canada, and am only infrequently able to make it across the border. When I do get across the border, it's been hard to find them at the banks. It seems half dollars don't circulate that much. I ended up rummaging around the US Mint website. They sell two $10 rolls of 2008 half dollars for $30. I ordered them, and they just arrived. They look really great, circulation coins. Nice and shiny, and the milling is fairly sharp. It's a pretty easy way to get a lot of half dollars.
If you decide to, they also sell them in bags of 200 for about $130. |

Not at the banks when you crossed the border? Odd. I know coin stores sell rolls also, well at least one of my local ones do.

LordFelix---
I hit up about 4 banks in my area, bigger chains at that, and not a one had a half dollar in sight. In fact, most of them looked at me funny when I asked for them. One branch told me that some guy came in once a week and collected all the halves they had and they saved them just for him. =\ A couple said they would order them for me, but they don't seem to be as common as you would think. |

Apparently I am out of touch with reality there. No big suprise with me I guess LOL.
Coin stores for sure though! If I can watch a guy buy 2 rolls of those silly presidential dollars, darn tootin he has halves back there too! |

Not even a little roll of coins or bills of foreign currency. It's all handled by ATMs and even they are placed outside of the banks. Not exactly progress from a customer's point of view but at least there are no more bank robberies.

Wow, that is interesting Noobini!
I can get Half dollars at the banks around here easily too Felix. I guess location may have something to do with that. I am in Pennsylvania. I am glad you were able to get your coins Wackyvorlon, you should be in good shape for a while. About the most halfs I ever needed at one time was six and that is what I have and they are silver..... Well actually I do have more than six, but only a max of six of one type. I have Ben Franklins, Kennedy's and Walking Liberty's.....

Most interesting Noobini.
Kind of reflects what I do nowadays. The only time I carry any sort of cash is my coins for tricks. Debit cards are my currency of choice nowadays. Also helps with the panhadlers, 'I don't carry cash anymore' is like beggar repelant |

I bought a $10 roll yesterday from a coin shop at face value. Banks I visited/called had none. Coin shops appear to be where it's at.

You might try Ebay. They sell the silver ones, the 40% silver, and the cheaper clad ones.

Debit card in a lemon just doesn't sound as good does it?
It would be a heck of an illusion though. |

Ok, I know nothing. How does this sound. 5 Kennedy 1964 halves .900 UNC for 30 Euro? Ok, I know the dollar isn't worth a S*** at the moment, but knowing nothing about kennedy halves as I do (don't), how does this sound?
Scott P.S. About $45

If and only IF there coins are in really, really good shape and show little to no wear would I pay 30 Euro for those coins.
Really you should not use uncirculated coins for magic, see if you can get circulated coins. |

Uncirculated coins ensure equal wear over time if you wear them down the same; lets say a rock tumbler or change purse. Performing with uncirculated coins, not for me either; too noisy.

You just need a soft touch. I use my Ben Franklins and now my Kennedys all the time and their not soft. Now for some "edge" work, you know Harbottle stuff, I use my soft Walking Libertys and a soft touch.....

Wackyvorlon,
Off topic, but the nickname is cool. I am a Babylon 5 fan and the "vorlon" part of your nick jumped right out at me! "And so it begins ..." Cheers, Vlad |
