Well, if you use bills you could build the routine around a short-change/swindle scenario that never seemed to go right.

Terry Lunceford's "Six Card What" has a nice patter line. It may still be available from certain dealers or from Terry himself.

I looked through my notes and I thought I had my routine ideas for the Six Bill Repeat. I bought the bills then proceeded to make my own using photo copies of real bills. I'm going to use the short change swindle idea and I wished I had written down the notes. I usually do. I wouldn't mind sharing them.

If you are doing the six card repeat, I know a good routine from George Sands called, One Card Pete. I don't mind scanning that for you if you are interested.

Considering what's out there for sale today, I should probably market this ( Smile ), but here it is anyway...

Umpteen years ago, I did a take-off on the six-card repeat, but with five cards and a poker story. Seems the guy kept dropping and taking cards magically, until he finally ended up with a royal flush. I don't remember the setup, but I do remember doing the routine backwards until I figured out what went where.

George:

This sounds similar to a trick Richard Osterlind marketed several years ago called, "Out of Hand." His used Aces and then ended up with a Royal flush. The routine is on an old video of his called "Challenge Magic."

It's also on my "Mind Mysteries" video series with full instructions as to how to make it up.

Hmmm... what's that they say about twisted minds thinking alike? Smile

I'm going to have to look it up in my old (as in 'waaay old) notebook, but I think it dates back to the late 60's.

I'm curious, though, as to how many people are doing it from your book/video and how it goes over. Love to see someone doing it.

I am not sure if this is in print, but many years ago I was shown (by Tommy Frederick of Glasgow) a version of Senator Crandall's very funny, one handed six card repeat, "The Passing of Six Cards Through a Solid Silver Salver into a Beautiful Burnished Bowl!"

I believe Crandall presented it close-up and sitting down, I performed it as a compere (M.C.) item on and off for about ten years.

Worth looking up - if you can find it!

Al Cohen once told a tale about a short guy and tall woman he met.
His tale and gesturing cracked me up.

Sounds like one of the elements in the Crandall routine. If I can remember it, I'll write down my take on Tommy Frederick's take on the Crandall original (!)

As and when I've done that, I'll let you all know and those who are sufficiently interested can PM me for the details.

I don't have a copy but apparently Crandall's one-handed six card repeat can be found in Tarbell Vol 6. with a credit to Roy Benson.

Joshua Jay gave a great lecture at my magic club last week, and it included his version of six card repeat, called "Vegas Visit." If your persona is the type that would take a trip to Las Vegas to have a good time blowing some money (it turns out my persona is just not that type), then this strikes me as a great effect.

It's a version that uses replicas of credit and business cards, designed to fit in a wallet (part of a series of routines that can be carried in a wallet). The scripting was excellent, and it's on the DVD that comes with the props, for $25, a very reasonable price. The props are easier to handle than for the conventional six card repeat, because they are based on a totally different trick, which I won't mention, so as not to give away too much. If you get it, you'll see what I mean.

Here's the web link:

The best one (by far) that I know is in Tarbell by Senator Crandall. Superb but still lacking a great climax, a problem which seems to be dooming this great effect. The public prefers the effects where the magician gives (image of generosity) than the ones where he vanishes (image of self centering and selfishness).

Thinking it over, why not to do Pat Page/Fred Kaps EZ Bill with the last three bills and change them into articles cut out from magazines and folder to size. This would supply patter themes and a climax!

There are two or three presentations in Extreme Magic Makeover that I thought were great.

I have found Tommy Frederick's presentation of The Crandall one-handed routine. I made some further alterations - including the addressing of Lawrence O's observation that it needed a stronger climax. I thought so too!

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll let you have my take on the routine.

Max Krause has released "A Poker Story" that not only finishes with a Royal Flush but has a color change finale.

Richard Osterlind released his effect "Out of Hand" back in the 1980s.

Bill Abott also released his "Five Card Opener" don't know any performance detail on this one.

There are several routines including a version of 'Senator' Clark Crandall's by Aldo Columbini.

This routine was originally Roy Benson's. How Crandall got it is a mystery. Leave it to Benson to come up with another great idea.
