Hi Gang,
I'm working on a new routine and would love some input. I am working on a Blind folded Rubik's cube solve followed by the gimmicked cube. This is a YouTube video of me doing the routine for the first time in front of an audience. I'm looking for scripting ideas and waterer else you might want to comment on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1GhT1qU_p4 P.S. I was planning on using music for the routine but did not have it yet. This sound guy was great! Thanks, Fitz

Don't know if this is the proper forum for this question... epoxy a nail to the ceter square of the rubiks cube and blockhead the thing, THEN ask your question.

This is pretty decent I have been doing this exact routeen for a while now minus the gimmicked cube ending. My adivce a good music choice would be the mission impossible theame. I could be funny to have the MI theame come on for the second song and you could remark about how its begining to feel impossible.
You do a good job with the bit. Im not saying mine is better. Its the same format we just do it diffrently. ATG |

Thanks for the input so far... I have also received some great PMs thanks for those as well.
Mr. The Great Nippulini I posted this here for two reasons one the first cube is a real solve, not a trick. And two I think this group is one of the most sincere and creative groups on the Café. I really do respect your opinions and your input. So far it has paid off because of some of the PMs. Thanks for your thoughts and please keep them coming Fitz

Can we drop "Great" also, and call you "The"?

Is this a freak version of the old "Fresh Fish Sold Here Today" routine?
Thanks for the input Harley, my gears are going and I'll respond soon. Fitz

Yo Nipps, it's cool. Everybody relax.
I agree with Fitz. This particular thread ("believe it or not") has the most honest, kind, giving spirit about it, in my opinion. And where else can Fitz turn? He isn't doing magic, he's solving a puzzle wearing a blind fold. He could go to "Not very Magical" but who goes there? He obviously wanted others opinion on his routine and he trusted the people that wonder in here to give it to him. Fitz, the routine is long winded. It's cool and all but I would be a little more impressed if you could do that while reciting the pledge of allegiance rather than wear a blind fold. BORING. The other reason I like this particular thread is the guys have a sense of humor. Sillily, Will

It is a good idea, good premise and look (Love how the blindfold matches the podium thingie), but there needs to be some more action.
I would have opened with the Twilight zone theme and then did the I dream of genie theme. The Twilight Zone theme builds a more serious tone to the act (Yes...Take it seriously! You spent YEARS perfecting this trick (Whether you did or not) and now it is time for it to be unveiled!!). Make your stance solid, brave and serious, let us see the concentration in you mouth, tension in your forehead. The Twilight Zone ends and you are not yet finished, so you call for more music. Then I Dream of Genie comes on and you act a little annoyed at first, then get into the music while solving the cube. A hip shake at the heavier drummed parts in the tune would absolutely kill the audience. You might even forget about doing the cube for a second and just bust out dancing for a measure or two. Then remember where you are and what you are doing, reset yourself and go back into serious mode to finish. This is just what first came to my mind. The music is great, but you need to have more business to do besides fixing the cube. There is not enough variation in your movement or character as it stands to bring the act to its full potential. It is on its way...just needs a little tweak. Gwyd |
