I've been thinking about getting this for a while. My only concern is: if you have the volunteer throwing the cards over their head, and the deck used for the effect is not something inexpensive to make up, that means at the end of the show you're hunched over walking around the stage like a broke dope picking up cards (not the final impression I want to leave with my audience) instead of just having them swept off and thrown away.
So my question is: is the deck used something cheap enough to put together yourself so you can burn through one per stage show? Thanks! |

Making careful decisions in the performance environments you are subject to will assist in giving your SMart Ass deck longevity. I've been using the same deck for over two years, mainly because if I'm in an environment where the cards might get soiled, stepped on or destroyed - I simply use a pop-up hamper or umbrella and have the spectator toss the cards inside during the elimination sequence. If I'm in a banquet scenario I have one of the servers or wait staff pick up the cards from the floor right after the routine - even though they are gaffs, they have never happened upon the secret! Because I agree that bent over at the end of the show (or during) is not the lasting image I want to leave my audiences with.
Bottom line, make good choices to look after your Smart Ass deck and it'll last a long time, over hundreds of performances. Cheers Bill |

Thanks for the response, Bill! I love the fun aspect that having the volunteer throw the cards over their head adds, but the pop-up hamper sounds like a pretty good substitute.
If I did want to just burn through a deck per show, how much would that cost me? |

Best idea is that you have another back-up deck ready. Just in case the one you're selling is up to no good.

I performed this at a Christmas party in front of 80+ people, the celebrity version. Went down so well!

I've had "Smart Ass" for a few years now, and it's an awesome effect. But "Celebrity Smart Ass" has been on my "wish list", and I finally got a bunch of shows that made it a worthwhile investment. (I perform mainly kidshows, and card tricks aren't high on the agenda for these shows).
I knew exactly what I'd be getting, or at least I thought I did. Turns out, there are a bunch of subtleties and gags that would have taken many performances to come up with. The DVD is comprehensive, with all the info anyone could possibly need to put this straight into their shows. "Celebrity Smart Ass" is a killer. I love the "baby gag" already, but always found it had a fundamental flaw, as it's just that - a gag - with no real magical impact. Bill Abbott has taken the gag, and turned it into a tour de force. The routine is interactive, with all the audience members participating; it's funny, with business and gags throughout, and the "baby gag" at the apparent climax. Then there is the final reveal, which turns the whole thing around, and becomes an impossible feat. The whole concept is so clever, because there's an underlying statement about modern society, and our obsession with celebrities. That really appeals to me. It's very exciting to be putting this into my shows.....no practise is required, at least if you're an experienced performer. The effect is so easy to perform, even a child could do it, blindfolded if they wanted! I agree that this is the "perfect" comedy stage magic effect. Simple to do, so all the energy can go into performance. The cards themselves are "cue cards", so there's really nothing to remember. And it's a devastating piece of mentalism, which would be hard to beat. Love, love, love this. Bill Abbott has created a masterpiece, and no doubt, it will be used by thousands of performers around the World for decades. (Will have to change up the celebs for the final reveal at some point though!) It's a 10/10, flawless in every way. Doug |

I am sometimes worried about the little noise when separating the cards. anyone with the same issue?

Nope. I've done it over 100 times and noise has never been an issue. First, there is absolutely no need to go fast. Going slow almost completely eliminates the chance for noise. Second, you are talking at that point so your voice will cover whatever little noise there is. If done right, I honestly think this is the only parlor card trick that can live up to the Invisible Deck and, dare I say, I think this is actually stronger. An absolute killer.

OK, I'm in but I'm confused as
why do we need 'replacement packs'? Is that just through normal wear and tear? I don't mind spending the extra for the replacement, just wondering why. I'll be buying Aug 3 at 5am. As many of us know why. _____________________________________________ Bill, if you are out there thanks again for The Thing Redunkulous Soon to own SPOTS

Hi Chappelly
He had a special on some items on that day only. This was not included but I picked up SPOTS. Hi Paisa23, http://www.billabbottmagic.com/online-st......Ass.html I think it is all in the style you like. But I'm switching to Celebrity since I'm doing this as a parlor trick. You could probably do the card trick as close up and maybe work with an ambitious card routine eventually vanishing their card (not signed) and having it appear as a jumbo in the an envelope.

I have both the original and the 'celebrity' versions of this awesome trick. I am leaning toward the 'celebrity' version as being the better one - at least for me. I think the story line and the opportunity for audience interaction is better with the 'celebrity' version.
Childrens performers can easily purchase a blank deck and build a whole routine aroune Old MacDonalds farm making this trick really kid friendly... |

If I wanted to create another version, does anyone know if there are blank replacement decks avaliable?
Or do I have to buy the whole trick again? |
