My thought on this is to practice until it becomes second nature or until you are comfortable. Practice in front of a mirror. Your question comes across as a confidence issue, something I suffer from it myself once in a while when I don't feel like I have practiced enough or I'm concerned that I don't have the bugs worked out. We have all gotten burnt at on time or another and it's no fun. My club recently ventured to a local Café (with the owner's permission) a did some table magic. The coins across I practiced for a week killed. That's the pay off is when people are thrilled with what you do. Find effects you enjoy and practice until you can really do them well. Have trusted friends check your presentation and then dive off the deep end. I doubt Lance Burton can do EVERYTHING without a little rehersal. of course he works on his craft everyday so it's doubtful that you'll ever catch him without something to perform.
Hang in there. Join a support, err Magic group, like IBM, SAM or thru you Local Magic Store. They will help you lots! |

An early mentor of mine when I was in sales years ago, gave me some sagely advice once that has stuck with me and that is: " When you are green, you are growing...when you're ripe you're rotting!" so stay green, always.

Let me add the difference between a beginning magician and an advanced one does not come from learning vast amounts of tricks or advanced sleights. The only thing that makes a difference is performing experience. If you have a thousand hours or experience performing self-working tricks for a variety of audiences, you will be far ahead of someone who has mastered all of Marlo's material, but only performs in front of a mirror...
