While I have found some of the effects marketed (Mr. Higley is a fantastic source) to be available rather easily, I enjoy wandering the aisles of my local craft store to see what can become of the mundane things I find there. I have a small little teddy bear that will lay in the palm of your hand- provided his chain and binding rune are securely in place.....
There is the scrying box where at times the small chalkboard lid reveals some secret or other.
Then of course, there is the Avian creature Mr. Chelman mentions- a beast form the depths of a tormented mind to be sure.
Look to the tales you are telling to guide you towards the correct item to pull from your pocket or journal. It may or may not "do" anything other than enhance the tale, then again......

If it makes you feel any better Mark, its looking more and more like I might have to fly to the Philippines in August. So your flight could be (much much) longer.

The Phillippines, huh, that'll be a cool trip. Talk about a loooooong flight. There's a lot to see there, though. Well, I get a touch claustrophibic. Last time we went over the lady in front of me reclined her chair so I could see her lovely bald spot. . . two inches from the tip of my nose. Apparently I looked so grief stricken the steward asked her not to recline which made it ever so much less unpleasant. We thought about splurging for business class this time, but looking at the $3000 price tag put an end to that dream. I'll be fine. I'm usually okay after a couple v&t's in the lounge pre-boarding.

Manila is really cool the first couple of times, after that it's just a really long flight, a really long layover in japan, and then a bunch of Japan Airlines stewardesses who look like supermodels trying to refresh your drink every five minutes. I suppose it might be fun, but I'm going for work.

But back to the thread at hand since we've digressed, I noticed nobody has recommended outlaw-effects.com or mjmmagic.com's "bizarre magic" store.

Don't forget Michael Fraughton's site. As was mentioned earlier, his book "The Dark Waltz" is a must have. Click on "snake oil" below the photo to go to a list of products:
