Okay, so it's only a coupla hours from home, but the Missus and I haven't had a weekend away in...hm...four years now. Hotter than a $2 watch down here, but we're heading over to Balboa Park for some rubbernecking at the sights today. Things look a little different around than I remember -- haven't been in town since Dad was stationed at Coronado back in '72. I wonder if that little joint with those Mexcellent enchiladas is still open in Chula Vista...

I've only been back to the SD area a few times since Navy Boot camp in 75 but I do love it down there! I'm quite sure some "Mexellent" (I like that) food can be had in several places especially Chula Vista! My dad lived in Chula and Carlsbad for a few years and always knew the best authentic Mexican Restaurants to frequent!
My youngest son was just accepted to SD State along with several other schools but he opted for Long Beach so I'm sure we'll get down to SD more often when going to visit him! I'd also like to make it down for some one on one tutelage from Steven Youell and I'm sure we can find enough reason to stay an extra day or so at the beach! |

Leland, if you're going to be around Balboa Park , head to Old Town for some good eats and sights!

I only went to San Diego for bootcamp in the 70s. Nice weather and town.

WOW!!! We just got back from Balboa Park and IT IS AMAZING!!! (And NOT just because several locals bent at the waist and raised their kilts to the tram as we passed, in some sort of odd local greeting... .) The entire place is chock-a-block with museums, and it's unbelievable. Can't wait to go back.
Other end of the park is a Veterans Museum staffed with vets who volunteer as docents. Coulda spent the whole day there...incredibly moving. Unfortunately, grub came from the same chain Chinese place we frequent back home |

Leland, Star of India is a good Indian joint in San Diego (3 locations).

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |
