Has anyone found a good way to restrict the movement of the eyes so they don't disappear while operating them?

Practice.
You soon get used to the movements required and it becomes second nature.

Thst is exactly right. The only thing you need to do is continue using it and you get a feel for the movement and what works best for you. You can then also place a finger back there as a sort of stopper and that also helps. But that only also comes with practice.

Is this still good if you cant vent?
fancy getting it but cant vent or never tried to vent in my life

Purist, I can't vent to save my tail, and since I do not carry a speaker system unless I absolutely have to, the cd's are not an option for me. The routine that I use has very little talking by the board, although he does sing a song, with the kids help. I find that once they get into the routine the kids could care less if my mouth moves or not, although I do try to keep it at a minimum. The board is a great piece of equipment, gets wonderful reactions, but you still have to have a routine that will carry the audience.

The routines are probably endless once you can do it well

On the original question, practice is the best, but... if you want you can add a couple of small pieces of card stock ( or something that you can feel) just below the gimmick at each end so when you feel the edge (this is not a stop it is just something that would allow you to know you are at the end of the eye travel) of the card stock you know you don't want to go any further.

There's no reason why you can't add just the tiniest mark on the back at the stop-point you prefer - you're not supposed to be exposing the control lever anyway.
You shouldn't be staring at it, but it might give you some confidence to know it's there if you need it. |

Many will cut a notch near the edge of the eye slot on the back at a point where they want to "feel" where their thumb is. Every board is a little different and every thumb is a different so we don't mark that for you. Don't get into the habit of looking back there at all.

I have both the large and small sized Axtell MDB's.
As has been mentioned something you can feel is the way to go on the larger board. I just use gaff tape. On the smaller board however, if you put the tip of your index finger into the slot, it is perfect! I've got reasonably thin fingers and the eyes make it close to the edge but then stop, it really is perfect. If your fingers are thinner than mine then I suggest you eat a pie or two. |
