Hey Michael, it's good, but I wasn't thrilled with it. Sure it was funny and very creative. But the fact you say he doesn't share details about the routines verbally is blatantly not true because of the sections called "details and finesse" which clearly give those and gives great insights which are worth more than the DVD alone. It's too bad you missed that.
As well as you ripping him about the sleeving technique. In the lost "details and finesse" area which you overlook he has points on how to do it properly. Will people do it wrong, yes. But they probably don't care much about the details to look over and study the routine. Good Video, bad information.... Pete

I know its there, I saw it.
I still disagree with the sleeving technique even in the details and finesse section. Also, my point is that if he just TALKED during the actual video he wouldn't NEED to include an entire separate section to actually teach you how to do it. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I understand you have your thoughts on it. My problem is, for a review you say he doesn't talk... he does. You say he doesn't give the details and finesse... he does. I like the way it's presented. you have the basic explanation which gives you, the basics. Then after you run through those, you can have him walk you through it and explain all the little things. Everything is covered very well and is explained well by pictures and words, and then by him walking you through it. Everybody learns a different way. This DVD highlights the idea of teaching them in every single way possible.
I guess the main thing is in a review you need to put everything in it. In watching your review it seems as if again he doesn't talk at all and none of the finesse points are given, which is simply untrue. Pete

I like it. I agree with about everything. one peeve that you didn't mention was I wish homers performance included some current patter or somthing. One reason I'm hesitant to perform tricks like thi is it feels awkward to me. produce coins vanish coins bring them back. and you basiclly just tell them that. I dunno just feels like somthings lacking. I too still liked it though and learned a lot of the little bits and pieces

Pete -- I put in an annotation as a sort of edit to clarify what I meant in the video. Hope that makes it seem fairer to you.

So wait, you didn't like The Terminator, the quintessential low budget action adventure of the mid eighties? I'm confused. Surely you didn't mean that? Naah.

Mfeld I'm interested in the comment you make about Eddie Izzard...what did Homer incorporate into the video? I'm a huge Izzard fan (saw him here in FL a week ago)...
cheers, JW |

Hey Michael,
Great Review. I remember you sleeving skills at Fetcher's so I totally get why you would cringe at the wrist break style. Email me or PM me here, I finally got down that coin and pen bodyloading routine down and would love to run it by you. |

However this particular "plot", the three coin production, vanish, production has always given me some trouble in this regard. it helps to see the work/ ideas of others for inspiration. In my town I'm the only "coin worker" I know ( except for maybe old earl, but anyway) so the closest thing to collaboration or sessioning I get is the released work of others. I have shelves of books and tons of dvd's with moves and methods. sometimes its the other stuff that has the real value. |

Hi Josh,
Sounds like you need to replace, or add to, those dvds and moves with books on presentation. : ) With just a little thought and imagination making money appear, vanish, jump etc. can be given a great presentation. In my experience it was best to NOT have others around as it forced me to be creative. Look elsewhere for creative inspirations. Movies, cartoons, music, classic authors and creative writers and on and on... But I'm sure you already know this. Another way to think about it is like this.....why do you have to follow the beaten path? Why produce, vanish, and then produce? Why not just produce and then vanish? Ad infinitum.. All the best, Kranzo

Well with most things its not a problem. to tell you the truth it the final reproduction. theatriclly I find the final reproduction stupid.
well the unbeaten path lets call it ditching lol, is less flexable and I'm only dressed for the occasion 25% of time. I do perfer to do it that way in a lot of ways. but then your vanishes become more limited, which is the whole reason for the final production. anyways, I like a lot of other plots better if I said iv put a lot of thought into the "elbow neck knee" trick id be lying. so far its been most usful as a show me a quick trick kind of thing. with all the endless amounts of stuff out there I think the plot is weak to begin with. its to easy to replace something like this with somthing like trio. |
