Everyone has their own viewpoint; that's cool.
I'll leave you with this: You really think Darwin Ortiz practices one of his card routines in an airport's bathroom stall? You really think David Blaine is going to practice his latest effect standing inline at the DMV? You think David Roth practices his 3fly when he is inline at McDonalds? (well, maybe! haha) Why not? Think about it. Keep the practice private gentlemen, they do.

Practicing a move. and practicing a routine and your act is a bit different

This is beyond ridiculous. How'd we go from the clipshift to claims that Darwin Ortiz would never practice a move in an airport bathroom stall? Who said anything about an airport bathroom stall? What next, I can't finger palm the change in my pocket unless I am in a windowless, locked room? Seems like it.
Back to the topic, anyone get this move down yet? After a couple of days of religious practicing and the expense of my right pinky finger, mine is almost passable. PS: McDonald's has pretty fast service, David Roth wouldn't have the time to practice a 3fly routine before he's asked if he wanted to supersize his meal. -Tomer

Getting there I suppose, yesterday I changed how I clipped the card so some back trackking there. I need speed

Judging from what I've read on other boards, getting the card to shift to under the forefinger so you get it aligned seems to be causing the most difficulty. That and the top cards shifting. No one seems to have the speed where they want it. And noise is also an issue
Also apparently Chad cautions against using the forefinger to shift the deck. I didn't remember him saying that. I'll have to watch the DVD again. Regardless many are saying they do use the forefinger along with the thumb to move the deck and it helps. It was also pointed out that Chad appears to do the same thing on the DVD. I've found that a liberal use of hand lotion solved most of my problems. I'm now working on speed, neatness and eliminating that annoying click sound. |

This is a good running thread showing progress. I've seen some videos posted but they all have music playing. The hardest thing for me so far is the noise.
How many Magicians does it take to advertise a trick? Three.. One to steal the trick. One to steal HIS trick. And one to write a good review.

Anybody have any tips on how to get rid of the freaking noise? If there's no real good way of doing so, do you think the noise would be a problem during performance.
My pinky is now so sore and stiff that if I physically move it around with my other hand, multiple cracks and pops occur. I think I've beem practicing a little too much.

I don't know when you're getting the click. When the card clears the deck or when the card comes out of clip. If it's the former, use your forefinger to get the deck clear so the card can pass. I find extending the thumb alone wasn't working for me and I'm reading that other people are doing the same. (Honestly I don't remember Chad saying on the DVD that you shouldn't use the forefinger. You can't really see anything during the wave so what does it matter?) If it's clicking coming out of the clip, try placing the card in the palm with your ring finger rather than letting it snap into position. Chad explains that but it flew by me the first few times I watched the DVD. Of course that kinda slows things up so you're back to trying to get speed again. Tweo steps forward, three steps back. Sigh. And really hold that deck at a diagonal with the hand off to the side rather than having the hand directly over the deck. I was doing that at first and you could hear the $#@!@& snap for miles. Hope this helps. Probably won't but at least you know you're not alone. |

I believe the forefinger issue is mentioned in the booklet. Not on the DVD

Thought this forum was magicians helping magicians? Guess people think they know it all and don't need anyone telling them what to do. Lesson learned.
Do forgive my sarcasm...some of you took it literally. On regards to Surfaced; excellent.

I think I remeber him mentioning it on the dvd. ill have to rewatch it. iv change the way clipped the card somewhat, so it looks more like how chad does it. this seemed to help the noise. of course this has made it slower for me again.
I did notice that when using the first finger the replacement is much more difficult. when I didn't the replacement gets almost automatic, has everything just lines up |

I finally received mine today. And I am very impressed with the DVD. I better get working on the move, I have only practiced 2 hours today which is not enough.
Thanks Chad.... I would have never known about this move if it wasn't for you. Sh3ldon |

I am only practicing with half a deck right now, it makes getting the mechanics down a little easier. Also, once I am proficient with half I will be able to do the control which I will get more mileage out of anyway.

Does anyone have the problem that the card goes like to far up so it sticks out a bit when your clipping it?
|

Joshua Barrett Inner circle Cincinnati, Ohio 3631 Posts |
At first. not really now. depending on how far it sticks out I'm not sure it would matter. its not a invisible move after all, and that angle is always going to be bad
