We now have two threads running on this...perhaps the mods could combine them?
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=218 I really love this effect, and I have to say that for the US clients, you are getting much more than a 'packet trick' as the effect comes with a 21 page booklet with four additional presentations that can use the photos or any deck of cards that you have, so perhaps a nice routine with Christian Schenk's new Heirloom Decks, or his Gypsy decks, etc. Jim Critchlow has stipped back the method and provided a real breakthrough here. I am still in favour of using the photos along the lines outlined here by Abraxus, My own presentation uses an 1899 English Penny and a gold and ruby ring. The addition of candles is a really nice touch, and I can imagine other ephemera from the titanic as adding that extra touch. |

Will order this soon... love the 'Titanic' theme as its a story most people can relate to and you are really open to how 'deep' you can go with this type of hook..

It is and it isn't...the method is better and the premise a bit less gruesome...

I thought so when I published my version 12 years ago in the Shadow Digest based on the Hindenburg. (Albeit, I was influenced by the tape I received from Mary Tomach of the radio newscast as part of an effect she published in the Alter Flame.) I've since used the Donner Party incident in my routine, "Eaten." For clarification, my "original" Hindenburg routine used names and not pictures. Tony Iacoviello |

The effect sounds great...
But I just wonder : From Hell, Split reality, White Star. Is it since Derren a new trend to do this type of effect with pictures ? Not that I mind, but isn't it strange that one effect on the "tellie" can change the way an effect is done, marketed, thought about ? There was a time that it was frowned upon to do an effect the way somebody else did it. Now it seems to become "mainstream". This is not meant as a criticism. I like the plot of these effects, I just wonder if the mentality in mentalism starts to change.. |

"From Hell" and "Split Reality" are very different.
"From Hell" and DB's "The Undertaker" are very similar. "The Undertaker" and "Split Reality" are very different. "The Undertaker" and "From Hell" are designed for ONE person to split one pile of photos into TWO piles of photos, each of the two piles saying something about the people WHO ARE IN THE PHOTOS. "Split Reality" is designed for TWO people to split one pile of photos into TWO piles of photos, each pile saying something about each of the TWO people who ARE SPLITTING THE PHOTOS. (there are no people in the "Split Reality" photos) Very different premise IMHO, and very different handlings as fact. |

So Split Reality and White Star sound very similar, at least in the fact that they both use two participants.

Todd, they do tend to sound similar when looked at that way.
I'll comment on "White Star" further when it arrives in my mail box, until then I'd just be guessing. |

The premise of "split" is a nice one, though. If only I could get over my aversion for e-books...
