Definition:a hidden mechanical device by which a magician works a trick or a gambler controls a game of chance.

This means technically speaking it is not a gimmick. This is because it's not mechanical. That definition is from Dictionary.com.

A C/S coin is more correctly called a "fake." A gimmick is never seen, like a pull, or a ball dropper.

It is also correct to called a C/S coin a gimmicked coin.

Essentially, it is a gimmick in the context we are speaking in.

Is it possible to say a gaffed coin? I always (in my own mind) thought of a gimmick as being something additional used, as opposed to gaffed being something that is in view, but isn't as it seems. For example, a C/S can be shown both sides. The spec can't examine it, but the whole point of its existence is for it to be shown both sides. Whereas, the s***l can't be shown both sides, at least un-nested. Just me?

Or in answer to Vinny's question, yes, because the spec can't examine it Smile

My take on it is the same as Spatland in that if it can't be handed out I consider it a gimmick or gaff!

I agree I would also consider a CS coin a gaff being as your audience should never know of its two sided properties.

that's true, unlike a gimmick which generally can't be seen at all

One question about C/S coin if one uses the Jennings turnover or say gamblers flip there is no reason that the spectator would ever want to examine the coin.
to them it is what it is a coin
