The Browser's Den of Magic is pleased to announce that we have an upcoming lecture and workshop this July--and it is from our own Jeff Hinchliffe.
Jeff gave his first lecture back in 2004 and it was well received here at the shop. This time he's doing it bigger--there will also be a workshop available after the lecture. The lecture will feature many of Jeff's pet routines that he uses in restaurant and walkaround/close-up situations. While Jeff is known primarily as a cardguy, there will be one or two non-card items to satisfy those who may not be as nuts as he is for the pasteboards. The lecture will include a range of material from beginner to advanced, and will also include many of his thoughts and applications on the memorized deck--something he's used almost religiously since Mnemonica was released 4 years ago. In addition to the lecture, Jeff will be offering a workshop following the lecture--limited to 10 people. The workshop will be two-fold, in that while Jeff will have some subjects he'd like to cover, there will also be an opportunity for you to ask specific questions and have topics covered that are of particular interest to you. The workshop will focus on card-handling technique, and Jeff plans to cover the faro shuffle, false shuffles, multiple lifts, forcing techniques, and card controls. The lecture and workshop will both be held on Sunday, July 13th, 2008 here at the Browser's Den of Magic. The lecture will run from 11am until 1-1:30pm, and then there will be an hour break. The workshop will start at 2:30 and run at least 3 hours. Remember that the workshop is limited to 10 people, so first come, first serve. The price for the lecture will be $20.00 and the workshop will be $50.00. However, if you would like to attend both, you can purchase a seat for both for only $60.00, while workshop spots remain available. Because the lecture & workshop will be held at ‘Browser’s Den’ space is limited. So if you would to make sure that you can attend please buy a ticket or early. You can pay in person or by phoning us with your credit card information at 416-783-7022.

The above is the write up taken directly from the Browser's Den website. Let me add my two cents.
Go. Get your tickets now. The bottom line is that Jeff if one of my favorite card guys to jam with, and he has some great ideas for close-up and stand-up workers. If you have any questions, feel free to ask or call the store! Ben

Jeff gave a sneak preview of some of his lecture material last month at the P. Howard Lyons Ring and he had some very clever and innovative material to share. I can't wait for the full lecture. I hope the stuff he fooled us with will be in the notes.

Thanks Ben and James...
It's so nice to have friends, especially one's that can be bribed so easily... On a serious note, if you're a cardguy looking for some new ideas (and some new work on old ones) you'll enjoy my lecture. If you're into mem-deck work or looking for a reason to do mem-deck work, you'll enjoy my lecture. If you're looking for a fun trick to 'fool the boys' at the next magic club meeting, you'll enjoy my lecture. If you're looking for material that has been used in a variety of close-up/walkaround situations, you'll enjoy my lecture. If you're looking for Waldo, try page 8. See you guys on Sunday... Jeff

During one of my classes today, looking at medieval feudalist societies, our teacher had us stare at a painting depicting a typical 'manor' village. After we all yelled out various 'things' we saw in the picture, we ran out of ideas. There was a few moments of silence then I yelled "upper right corner!"
The prof asked what I saw. I looked him in the eyes and said "waldo". ... did you laugh? No? Neither did anyone else. BURN! If you take anything out of this diatribe, it should be this= I'm pumped for Jeff's Lecture (So much so that I spelled his last name correctly!!!) Ben

Ben,
Don't worry, us Gies-ers understood the joke. (Please tell me somebody got that reference)

Very nice lecture.
The notes are wonderful as well - well put together and edited with sections on close up magic, memorized deck magic and a little known and underexplored principle. They stand up well on my shelf (though only in the metaphorical sense, since they're not hardcover). I think they still have a few copies available for sale at the Browser's Den. |

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Jeff's notes are some of the nicest I have ever seen (for a lecture).
There are some really nice pieces of magic, some clever thinking, and some interesting presentational ideas- all bound in a beautiful 70+ page book (complete with clear and detailed photos). As far as the lecture itself, it was a lot of fun. I love Jeff's sponge ball routine (which actually made me rethink my own... and I plan on implementing some changes) and there were some clever card ideas (the zarrow/triumph idea was very interesting, as well as a couple of clever mentalism pieces). Jeff, congrats on the lecture, and I look froward to part 3! Ben
