Well, like I mentioned, the cost of the technology to do that would be a rather large initial cost. All the live feed cameras of decent quality, the wireless devices to network everything together, the initial website programming and setup for billing, etc... the per event wifi costs, the need to be picky about locations due to electric needs and no wifi interference...etc..etc...
The biggest obstacle is getting internet access at the event - the costs for that would be rather large unless you are in a major metro area with cutting edge options available - even then it would be somewhat costly given the bandwidth needs for multiple streams of video/audio, ect... What about an "after the convention" access to the lectures, shows, ect? For example, for $x, you get access to all that for a few days. I have a few other ideas kicking around in hopes to stir things up and try and reignite the magic scene in the south central PA area.

The biggest problem of all is a lot of the performers don't want to be recorded.
I know at Kutztown some performers ask us not to record them. |

Spellbinder, please excuse my ignorance but why can't you attend a convention in a wheel chair?

I know there are dealers on this forum, as well as many professional magicians, performers, hobbyists, ect..
Im curious.. rather than me sayign what Id like to do.. what are some things YOU would like to see? Spellbinder made a very solid posting of what his hot buttons are and what he would like to see... what about the rest of you reading this? What would you like to see that you feel is missing from the magic scene?

Marty Remind me next time I see you to get you to sign my martini collection of books. Including your lecture notes circa 1985.
Spellbinders Idea is worthy of note. The whole Idea of adding excitment to an event by connecting around the world is notable. But (there is always a but I fear) Part of the Magic of a local convention is the one to one Physical meeting of people to share a common idea, goals and skills. much of the magic happens In the hallways and at the Late night sessions. This is something you just cant get from the web. Just like Logging onto a forum has its merit. I have never been so connected to my fellow wizards as on the forums. It is still a different expeirence to sit down at 2 am with a beer in hand Richard Hughes on one side and Eugene burger on the other side Talking about The good old days. You just cant get that on the web. mmread I agree Let those of us who present gatherings, know who and what you want to see. while I cant gaurantee it, we will certainly see if we can pull it off. each year we ask our attendees to give us feedback and we try to improve a little each year. (darn that sounded a little corporate sorry gang) This year we will once again tweak everything to see if we can make our gathering better. The Bottom line when putting a gathering together is that while there is a great amount of love that goes into putting on a gathering, there is a budget. that budget has to be weighed against Income. Unless you have a sponsor with realy deep pockets, we have to live with what we can afford to do. There is also the Non Budget part.I spend personnaly several Hundred personal hours of time to get the gathering each year together and Im only one of a large group that put on our event. My poiunt here is that anyone doing a gathering will need lots of dedicated help. (Bob Patterson Is the Best) I hope everyone understands that I am Not trying to discourage anyone from trying to establish a unique gathering. Just to be sure that you fully understand the cost and time comittment to get it done. Mike |

I knew Emily Litella was off, but I didn't think she was further off than I was. Never mind.
