For those outdoor Svengali Pitch people, I direct your attention to a neat little item I saw and picked up at a sporting goods store -- a tent fan. Click HERE to view.

This little $23 gizmo is made by Coleman, the stove folks, and is designed to hang from the inside of a tent and blow a stream of air downwards. It runs on 4 D-cells, and has a two-speed switch. The box says it runs for 24 hours on High speed and 48 hours on Low speed. But even then, that means one set of batteries should last through at least three or four all-day pitches. The fan is about 9" across and only weighs about 5 or 6 pounds, so it's easy to transport.

I ran a 3-foot bungee cord across the top two front cross-braces of my 10-foot square tent, and then hung the fan from that. It was positioned about 3 feet back from the front of the tent, and almost directly over my head, probably about 15" about it (I'm 5' 8"). On high speed, the fan directed a gentle stream of air over me, enough to keep the flies and gnats away, but not enough to disrupt cards on the pitch table. It also helped somewhat to cool things down -- I guess it's really meant more for sleeping and nighttime use.

But it was helpful and for $23, I'd say it was well worth the price. I used it for the first time last week at a street festival, and all the other vendors wanted to know where I got it!

Now who wants one, just raise your hand and we'll get to you as soon as we can . . . . Or you can just go to the camping section of your local sporting goods store, or the Coleman website shown above. SETH

That sounds like it would make hot days a little nicer, I recken it would be great especialy if paired with a good set of rechargable Batterys cos those D-Cells can get expensive.

Good idea about the rechargeable batteries!

Currently I only do about 3-4 shows a month (weekend warrior), but anyone using it more frequently should definitely look into using rechargeables, it would be worth it. SETH

Have you seen the portable mister for the front edge of your canopy? During a hot summer day it may be a great way to build a tip. Turn it on when you begin your pitch. Once the mist starts will attract attention on it's own. Depending on the adjustment, it lasts from 15 to 45 minutes of mist. The container pressurizes like a bug spray container. You pump the handle up and down a few times then turn on the valve. I haven't bought one but may eventually. Put some ice in the container and give them ice mist.

That misting gizmo looks very neat, I hadn't seen that before. Just don't get any mist on your key cards! Smile SETH

Mmm that misting thing would be great on some of the hot hot days we get down here.

I was just thinking, it would be neat to rig up some kind of tent fan with a small solar panel on the top of your tent. Because if you think about it the days when you most need a fan are the days when it is the sunniest.

For a small circus show I have been taking to some remote music festivals we rigged up a solar charging system for a whole bunch of led lanterns and fairy lights on the out side of the tent.

It was great because we only had power in the tent for the hour blocks when our shows were on and even then we had to be careful not to over load the generators. So being able to run our outside lights before shows and having the extra bits and bobs running was fantastic.

I'd think that fan would work well for the Zibit too. Park that sucker over my chair and keep those pesky gnats off my face.

I did a show a couple of weeks ago where the week before a guy was selling watermelon in the same spot. WOW!! Gnats AND some kind of bugs that LOVED to bite my legs! As you might imagine, I took bug spray and repellent the next time.

When you go to the Coleman site, didja see the fan you could set on your table, too? AND I like the foam blades so the kids won't lose a finger or 3.
