I am thinking about moving to one of the 3 cities to continue my career with magic at all types of parties. I know it will take a little time to get the marketing together. I was thinking about playing it safe by busking on the streets. Which of the following three cities will be the best support: Chicago, New York or Los Angeles?

Ask Chris Capehart. Actually I think it is all YOU... are you strong? Can you work under any conditions? Are you dedicated and passionate about your performing?

Presently, I am putting my table together as it reads in his lecture note. I want to be ready before I travel to Chris Capehart as he takes and trains me in the parks of New York. I have performed at festivals, parks, etc., but those times are when I got paid by a client. Michigan does not have permits for entertaining out in the streets. The population is too low also. |

The city of Detroit do have license for vendors. But no permits for busking. "Busking" is qualified as "begging" in Detroit.

NY offers a lot of opportunities for busking but you need a license. Also very cold and expensive to live.Housing market hasn't suffered too much in NYC.

What I am curious about is why you would want to move to any of the listed areas? Where you are at, you are known and established. Why throw away what you have been building since 1975? Everything always looks greener on the other side of the fence. It is all an illusion. I busked on Venice Beach in California (Years ago). Good hats, but it was not what I would consider a safe place to work. Add to that all of the competition already in place, and you find that you have some problems. Californa, New York and Chicago are already full to the brim with entertainers of all sorts. Most likely a lot who are better and already established in the area. Why toss yourself into a huge pond filled with bigger fish and make a small ripple when you already have an established following? Business wise, it doesn't make much sense. Just my thoughts, Gwyd |
