Hi gang,

I'm appearing on TV again...I was thinking of doing the Chair Suspension with my figure Nicolo. I plan to just cover the mouth area and make him comment while I'm doing the illusion.

I understand it won't be as nice as having a real person as a subject...but I want to make it a bit different.

The bit starts with Nicolo's jokes...a short conversation with the host and then I'll end with the Chair Suspension.

What do you think?

Any suggestions on comments the figure might want to say while I'm doing the illusion?

Wanlu, first of all how do you intend to make your figure lie down? I presume it is made in a sitting position. Can you bend the thighs of your figure?

Hi Lou,

I'm so worried everytime you post a comment after mine Smile

Anyway...I tried it at home and it worked just fine...the figure can easily lie down, what I'm worried about is the effect on the audience.

I'm sure using a figure won't be as magical compared to using a child but I'm also hopeful that it's going to be a nice gag Smile

Imagine Nicolo talking while I'm wrapping him with the cloth...I'll cover his mouth and he starts mumbling Smile

No harm in trying so...I'll try it soon Smile

Thanks Lou Smile

If the routine is funny it will go over well. I wouldn't worry about whether it's as magical or not. Comedy is better than magic, but the visual effect of the suspension can heighten the comedy. The illusion may even be better with the comedy interaction between you and the figure, which you can control completely.

Wanlu, I think you really have a challenge at hand. I think its a wonderful idea but you have to push it up a notch when it comes to puppet manipulation. The puppet still has to seem life like when its being suspended. all the best my friend. it'll be good if you could show us a video after the show.

I would cover the whole head of the figure with a small blanket while on the chair suspension. In that way, your figure can talk. Speak with a semi-muffled voice.

I was planning to cover just the mouth or maybe up the nose area only...

that's of course from the feet to the nose area...leaving only the eyes (and the rest of the head) uncovered.

Let the audience see the figure's eyes Smile

Thanks Lou Smile

When I cover my figure's head he yells something like "Guantanimo" or "Abu Ghraib". It gets a laugh.

They refer to places where suspected terrorists were tortured by their captors. One of the things they did was to put a cloth bag over the persons head.
Obviously those references wouldn't register in your country.
