If I do not clean these brass cups, will they end up going like a darkish brown colour?

They don't darken the way Copper does. They'll eventually turn a different color, but it's typically not very pretty.

Yep, that's the reason I don't like brass for my cups. If it's not polished once in a while, it can look pretty nasty. Copper ages beautifully.

I have to agree with Dave. I do have a set of Pete Biro's Johnny Paul cups which did turn a nice color and I waxed them a few time to stop the oxidation and they retained they're nice color after the waxing 4 years ago.

Carnuba wax seems to have the same effect that Jake is taking about.

I've been using some "Cape Cod Metal Polishing Cloths" with an Anti-Tarnish Formula. These do a great job.

I used "Gel Gloss" spray wax in a can. It contains carnuba wax among other things. It's designed for polishing and cleaning marble countertops. I had some and it was worth a try. Worked great!

I have used a high quality liquid finishing polish for the auto trade that does a great job in hastening the patination process on polished copper. I know that sounds counterintuitive but it seems to do a good job.

You may want to check out "Renaissance" wax. Originally developed for use in British museums to protect furniture and artwork it works on wood or metal. I first became aware of it when I asked a jeweler at a craft fair what she used to keep the iron she used in some of her pieces from rusting. Works on all metals to keep corrosion in check.
Jewelry supply houses carry it as does Highland Hardware in Atlanta. They recommend it to protect shop tools from rusting. Their woodworking website gives a good description of the product. http://www.highlandwoodworking.com |

I did some searching for Renaissance Wax and found that Highland Woodworking has the best price I could find. At first I also thought that Amazon has a better deal but then noticed that the bottle is much smaller. It's $20 for 2oo ml at Highland and Amazon has it (through Rockler Woodworking) for $17.45 for 65 ml. All of the reviews seemed to be very positive and people reported that a bottle lasts for a very long time. I went ahead and bought a bottle and will let you know my opinion once I have a chance to use it.
