Hi Autfan: Thanks for the kind words. They kind of answer Garrette. The new book I'm working on is (can I take the chance of typing its name in capital letters, and the heck with those who will, always do, complain about me plugging my books? Yeah, okay...) LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Vol. 2. I have a large list of email addresses to which I will email a copy of the full-page ad for the book when ready. If you want to be on that list, send your email address to my personal email address below. Best - HARRY LORAYNE.

While I am one of those people who prefer books to DVD's, I have to say that Harry's DVDs are exactly like his books--incredibly well communicated.

In Harry's set, there are a couple of moments where he clearly looked at the footage after filming was done and decided that either he hadn't been clear enough, or had not mentioned some detail he considered important, and rather than leaving it out as many would, he added paragraphs of text to the DVD making sure everything was clear to everyone.

I wish everyone did that. I just spent several hours going over a routine in someone else's DVD--a very, very famous and highly skilled cardman--who just didn't know how to teach clearly. I kept having to back up the DVD to see what he was doing--and it wasn't a technically challenging routine. It just wasn't well-taught. In fact, that DVD--which was full of excellent material--started off with a disclaimer that said if "a particular sleight is not explained in a routine, it can probably be found in another routine on the DVD" leaving it to you to search for it.

Harry, on the other hand, really does know how to teach something as well or better than anyone I've ever seen. You never have to read a paragraph of Harry's four times just to find out where your fingers are supposed to go, or which hand is doing what.

The man has amazing attention to detail.

Hello All

Hi Harry...

I came into magic at the tale end of the 1970s and there was only one author who made the learning process a breeze and that was Harry Lorayne. The Magic Book was a revelation for me because the style of writing was part of my conditioning process in terms of how to read and how to learn from books. This is a tribute to Harry's writing and teaching style.

When I eventually met Harry in 1982, everything became clear, his writing style is in proportion to his style of communication-direct, no mucking about, zero ambiguity.

As for Foursome, what can I say; I have been performing this effect for twenty five years. ,Thanks Pepka for the great review and thanks Harry for your compliment and feedback. I agree, it is complicated and tough to execute "effortlessly".

Let me address the issue of practice: one of the things that turns me on in magic is seeing magic executed well. I saw Harry, Derek Dingle, Slydini, Ken Krenzel Paul Harris, and many other great magicians all in the same week during my first visit to New York in 1982 and I saw great magic performed with absolute ease and effortlessly. This became my barometer for mastery and excellence. I love to practice and it is a beautiful thing to have elegant magic your fingertips.

4Play with Foursome is not an easy routine to do well and to borrow a phrase from one of Harry's books, “anything worth while will not come easy” and trust me, 4Play With Foursome is a worth while effect as is the original from Decksterity.

Harry, I will be in New York in October, hope to see you then.

Don't know anything about the movie, Hancock, so don't know if the above is a compliment or an insult! HL

I can highly recommend the Wimhurst version of this effect.
Whenever I find myself gripping anything too tightly I just ask myself "How would Guy Hollingworth hold this?"

I do too, you can find it in Andrews Wimhurst's book "Down Under Deals", which also includes the sensational Ultimate Topsy Turvy Aces.

Thanks Mike!

Harry, it's not to late to upgrade to my version. I'd be happy to drop by and teach you the routine, if you buy lunch.
