Only by what you wish to build may others decide to accept your offer to contract the same.
What is it that you wish to do? |

Josh,
Go to http://www.magicauction.com On that first page, scroll down toward the bottom and you'll see something that says "illusion hotline." Click on that and then you'll see an option for "Illusion Builders." Click on that and it gives you a pretty good list. Hope this helps.

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows an illusion builder who could build me the portal illusion, and how much it would cost.
I am new to the system and I couldn't find where to post what I am after. Someone please get back to me. Thanks. |

I second John's recommendation of Chris Murphy who did a wonderful job on my illusions and box table that I use in my shows.

I can only truly reccomend those builders who i have personally worked with. I can vouch for the quality and proffessionalism of both Chalet Magic as well as Illusions By Your Design.
Both do fantastic work and I have had the pleasure of working with both. I am not sure if Illusions By Your Design is still around, but Thom has always been good to me in regards to quality and the way he handles his business. Hope this helps.

We can personally endorse Gaughn. If you want quality from a guy that knows just about everything, he's the guy. He has taken very good care of us. Also, George at Chalet and of course Bill Smith. Thus far we have never had any problems or delays from any builder.

I have built illusions with John Gaughan, Bill Smith, David Mendoza, Wellington, Chalet, Owen Magic Supreme and Owen Redwine.
I have used over 100 different illusions in my career. In the past two years I have new illusions from Gaughan and Bill Smith Magic Ventures. Both time illusions were made quick with great craftmanship and design. My Bill Smith Fire Cage (other builders don't even come close to design and method) and Wellingtom origami both have over 10 years and 1000's of shows are still working perfect. Chalet illusions are top flight as well but doen't have the big boy's design in them. I was the first one to order a Redwine Compressed a few years ago and its looks new with near 1000 shows. If you hire a professional builder that the vegas boys use you can rest assure that you will get a great illusion. So it comes down to whats available from illusion builders, standard illusions with modern designs and custom illusions which is 70 % of there business. You will have to visit the builders to view the portfolio of custom illusions. The better builders won't show much on the web due to people ripping off designs.

Zigmont:
Thank you for posting this information. I am sure it will be of help to anyone getting into illusions. I guess my question now would be for the person just getting into illusions. What is the best illusiuons to get for them as they must keep the price down but still get a good quality product to offer to their clients. I know personally what has worked for me in my small illusion show that I tour with at local fairs each year, but I am curious as to the advice others may give to the person who is thinking of getting into illusions. Thanks all.

Here is a qoute from my resources for the magical arts @ http://www.zigmont.com/backstage.html
In my 20 years of buying, selling, building, producing, designing and performing Illusions, as well as working with over 100 different illusions, I have found used illusions to be the most cost effective way of obtaining illusions needed for a particular project. I always prefer to buy new cutting edge illusions whenever I have the opportunity from an authorized builder. end guote... It's best to by a top builder illusion that a cheap illusion.
