The important thing here is that it is ok to watch and be influenced by other entertainers and to learn from those that have gone before you. However, becareful just how much you allow yourself to be influenced. You can easily beocme over influenced by what you see and who you admire. If this happens, then you are not helping your own creativity but becoming another magic clone instead.

I finally got my "Manual Ultimate Sketch Pad" by Sean Bogunia in yesterday. It is not exactly how I thought it would be. It can not be done surounded like I thought. (not because of the performance, but because of the secretivity.)

Ways that fit Paddy's personality and get laughs and money. Gazzo's or Cellini's way just doesn't fit my personality. Paddy |

Hey Dynamike,
I like your enthusiasm. Yep,I agree with most of the opinions. A short ten minute act with three effects would suit. When I first started, I wanted to do everything - but I realised that I had a good children's show for forty minutes that wouldn't work on the street. I could do excellent magic across the spectrum for fifteen minutes, but I still risked losing a few. But, I could get great reactions for ten minutes. To me, that's the key. Your act should be as long as you can be great in the eyes of the audience? Ten minutes was good, and I feel that the average performer probably can do ten minutes of effects that the audience thinks are great. Remember, you've got to keep their contact more or less continuously - so ten minutes will be an effort. Anyway, my two cents. Do however long your magic can be great and mesmerising... I still do ten minutes, but the effects have changed a little. Best Wishes, Kevin Mc Lean. |

Heres the REAL deal. Want to do a street show well if you're new you should not try to go out and do 20 minutes....My suggestion is to do 10 to 12 minute for say 10 to 15 people that's IT 10 great minutes ...make $10 or 12 or maybe $15,,,,,THATS ALL if you can do that you can do 4 shows an hour, make $50 an do 4 hours....$200 that's a nice place to start and listen, you will be very fortunate to do that...you will fail if you try for anything more trust me, and stop listening to the guys who have the loudest voices and start listening to the guys who make the money. Doesn;t it seem reasonable that your odds are better if you try to do less but do that very well? Odds are that most here cant go out and do just 10 minutes of a street show and certainly in the beginning. So take my suggestion and just go out and do 10 or 12 minutes and work on that until its great! and remember this has nothing to do with magic, its not about tricks although the magic has to be strong...YOU'D better be entertaining or they will just walk away

Koz, our minds are thinking 100% the same way. After I started this thread I got a headstart in a park entertaining at two private birthday parties. I performed Sponge Rabbits, "The Thing", Miser's Dream, 8 Linking Rings and Chair Suspension. I felt comfortable with what I performed.
The next day I went to a festival. I left out the Chair Suspension because of the long walk and too much of an attention getter towards the officers. The act took ten minutes to perform. With the Chair Suspension it should of taken about twelve minutes. Some of you may know I am an enegetic person by most of my short post. I do not do the long talk like Gazzo and Peter Wardell. I perform trick after trick without pausing. I fell in love performing the Sponge Rabbits, "The Thing", Miser's Dream, 8 Linking Rings and Chair Suspension. So far that is my major. I will always start off that way on the streets. At times I will experiment replacing a new effect with a different one. Or I might just work on a second set with different effects incase the same crowd has not left yet. Koz, after watching you on DVD I told myself we have a lot in common. I like the attractive bright colors of your vest. You answered a lot of questions the way I would have answered them. You picture 10-12 minutes, I picture 10-minutes (with Chair Suspension 12 minutes) too. I can't wait to meet you in November. I am glad we are in the same boat. |

Chair Suspension?? If you're busking, you probably don't want to lug around a chair suspension.
I suspect after you hook-up with Capehart, all your questions will be answered. Jim |
