I was up all night worried sick about this whole "Building Implosion Escape." I'm watching the rebroadcast right now.
We can only hope for another season of Mindfreak ... Steve P.S. Didn't David already do this stunt a while back?? |

Yes he survived unfortunately. What a joke that was. How can any laymen watch that a not snicker?

I actually was disappointed, the whole thing had potential and it fell flat.
Kinda like the building did ... Steve |

Like we couldn't see that "surprise" ending coming from a mile away!
Steve, I was thinking the same thing! Why re-hash old Copperfield stuff (which David did better, BTW. Breaking through a window made Angel look like a hack who couldn't pick a $10 hardware store padlock, let alone open it by "magic"!)? I really have mixed emotions about the whole thing. On one hand, it's hard to argue with success. On the other hand, if you're gonna do things the way Angel does, why not simply tune in to a re-run of "Bewitched" or "I Dream of Jeanie"? Bottom line: good television, bad magic. |

"I was up all night worried sick about this whole "Building Implosion Escape"
_________________________________________________________________________________ Chezaday...I sure hope you were joking! Yeah - like, Criss, his manager, or the Luxor producers (who have already invested $$$$ in him and his Luxor show) are going to green-light a stunt where Criss might REALLY be in danger of dying...yeah, right! You knew the whole thing was a set-up once Criss remained on the outside balcony - trying to pick-open the 2nd handcuff lock (his wrists were no longer cuffed to the railing)...When anyone in REAL danger (instead of relying on pre-shot interior footage)...would be racing through the balcony door the second he was free from the railing. |

I was really hoping that he was actually going to do it. In watching, he truly looked nervous, which I believed and I thought built a lot of suspense. Even if he had escaped with 30-40 seconds left, it would have been terrific. If he had escaped the way he explained, he could have really shook up the whole Copperfield dynamic that people were comparing this to. I think his new stage show will be terrific, however this looked like a rehearsal for David Copperfield's escape years ago, but not polished, or exciting, or even magical.
I also think the host fell flat on his face. I had a pet rock in the past that showed more emotion than that. So in the end, great try, but if you are "not" going to actually escape, don't do it live, to many inconsistencies. |

What would have been a better ending to this is that the girl and police lieutenant were both locked in with Criss "accidentily" in the room, and Criss has to rescue the two of them, himself, all while the clock and dynamite goes off early making the helicopter disappears as well. Criss, the girl, the lieutenant and the helicopter all appear from nowhere (all of them inside the copter).

Does anyone think that this escape did not go according to plan? It went against what he said was planned but I don't think there was anything that was not planned. There is no way the building implosion was done without knowing Angel was free and clear, there would be way too much liability involved with any of that.

I watched the A&E coverage online after the live TV and both the producer and the stunt coordinator said "everything went exactly as planned." which to me says, they never had any intension of Criss getting to the helicopter.

Well Banchek at least believes Criss doesn't use stooges or camera edits in his effects.
I think he is having a lie down right now. |

LOL that news crew video was sure enlightening! Showing how he ran from the other building. hahahaha C'mon. This should never have aired. Copperfields version was waaaay better. A lot more dramatic and realistic. It was also actually magical!
What was this? Chad |

I for one, didn't like it. I liked other effects on the same program better.

Ok, I am not a Criss Angel fan but everything in this post is nothing but negative. Can anyone mention how they would have done it better? Criss has done many escapes were he appeared somewhere else, instead of doing that again, he came out from the scraps. Think about the spectator's impression "He survived the implosion."
Also, I guess he wanted to be different and did not want it to look like David's version, which also included camera trickery. In conclusion he did what he had to do. Thanks, Reynold |

Well I agree with you reynold that the end result he lived.
Maybe he should have parachuted in or something. But anyways, I have had several lay people come to me and ask what they heck that was. They said how can some one at this level put something so amateur together? After the effect they had no feeling or care for him or the rest of the show. It was poorly executed in many eyes. Layman and magicians. I think Criss has done a lot for the magic biz. But he needs to stop shorting himself cheap. I still think the best illusion was the bike illusion where he vanished on the bike mid-air and reappeared in the audience. Now that was magical in many eyes. This building implosion was just lame. It felt like it was a last min thing for the hotel and him. Best,

I liked when David Copperfield did this the first time. I probably still have this on VHS... The best part was when he appeared on that metal slab/table in the end. I just watched the youtube video, very interesting! I love how even Fox knows he uses camera editing.

The guy from the Magic Shop at Universal said that the Locals were coming in and complaining that they'd gone to see the live event, and were forced to watch it on a screen. Just for your information.

They did say that they would let 250 watch it live ... I've been to the beach numerous times ... Thousands could have watched the event from the beach.
Makes sense, and it's a good cover, but the locals know differently.
