I was busy working and missed the show. Did Criss make his normal "Not Camera Tricks" statement?
I'm not happy about exposure in any form.

It being "live" was supposed to take care of the possibility of camera tricks.

This was suppose to be his last "dangerous" stunt out of respect for his mama! Good grief!

In this Penn Jillette interview , Penn gives a humorous (and accurate!) description of Criss Angel's magic...

Criss appears to have screwed this one up badly, but what bothers me is some magicians are actually calling him a "fake." Magicians!!
I mean come on boys, as magicians, we're ALL fakes, are we not? Angel just screwed up a large scale illusion. Sure Copperfield did this one better, and with a lot more style, but he faked it too. He just was too good to get caught! I dislike camera tricks and editing, and Angel relies way too heavily on them for my taste, but the guy's a tv magician, right? And he does provide entertainment for his viewers. Still, it irks me to see magicians coming across like rubes. Angel is one of us, and as such, he deserves some respect. IMO |

I think that Penn Jillette's description of Angel as "I Dream of Jeannie" is accurate; Angel does rely too heavily on camera tricks. And Penn does know a thing or two about magic, including extensive television exposure and more than thirty years of live performances. It will be interesting to see how Angel's show will hold up when he has to do live performances. I wish him the best. Performing in Las Vegas is grueling, and Criss is going to need all the help he can get.
