ITricks is reporting that The World's Greatest Magic Show is closing. It's a shame as this show featured some great performers. Although it was not in a high traffic area. Has anyone heard anything regarding the show or performers? Danny? Hello?

I know that a touring version of the show is coming to Raleigh in November. It's promoted through Broadway South and seats are already filling in Memorial Auditorium. They haven't announced who will be featured in the show as it changes on the road just as it does in Vegas. Maybe they've "exhausted" their market in Vegas or they can't compete with the thirty or so Cirque Du Soleil shows and are taking the show and the stars on the road?

I don't know about this show but I saw the World Greatest Magicians on tour right after the first or second show was on TV. Mac King was in it and was great, the others had glitches but it featured Melinda (beautiful and nice), Greg Frewin and his wayward birdies, and Brett Daniels and his special brand of coma magic

It was a great show when I saw it back in Las Vegas in 2005. Great show, horrible hotel and location. I saw the touring show last October in Detroit. Great show...Hobson, Joesph Gabriel, Adrian James and a few others. It was in Detroit for a week, and really felt like a big show.

Hobson is in it? I like him, very entertaining guy.

He was in the Detroit version. Jeff's from Detroit, so that may have been why he was on the bill. (Besides his great act) I thought I saw his name listed in the Worlds Greatest Magic Show in MAGIC.

I was in Vegas for the first time ever three weeks ago and saw the show. It was great. Hobson was as good as advertised. I was amazed that they gave away the first 100 tickets free. It seemed like it was a going out of business sale to me. But that is only my guess.

That's what I thought. the show was great but off the strip and hard to find without a cab.

Actually, in Vegas, that is not considered off the strip. Off the strip is like the Rio, or Orleans, or Palace Station. A half block is hardly off the strip.
But to answer the question, yes it is closing - Jason Baney announced that here. 5 years is a good run and nothing to sneeze at. |

Yes, unfortunately WGMS is closing Sept. 1. We have officially been told nothing but we do know for sure it is closing.
The reasons we have heard for the closing really do not make any sense to the cast. There are always things you don't know and I am sure that is the case here. I can tell you this much it is not because the hotel is closing or being blown up at least not this year. It is not about lack of people, we are packed every night and have been all summer, unlike most shows in town right now. We were named one of the ten best deals in Vegas in July. The 100 tickets free was a short lived promotion with special requirements to qualify. It was changed to 50 not to long after. It still is in effect I believe. They were in talks to move the show to another hotel but apparently that has fell through as well. As far as a tour goes, we did tour last year to Detroit and yes there are 2 cities with dates this year. Raleigh, NC and Lansing, MI; both in November. Ironically none of the cast have been asked to perform yet. Given the current situation and reasons we have heard for the closing I don't know if they will happen. I am not positive of course but once the show closes the cast will look for other work and may not be available. If there was enough advance ticket sales then maybe??? We will have to wait and see. Someone mentioned the old tour with Mac, Brett, Melinda, etc. That was not associated with our show at all only the TV specials. That was a Gary Ouellet production and a very short lived tour. They ended up canceling the last half of the tour due to low ticket sales I believe. ( I actually saw it in Illinois.) The cast would love for the show to continue but it is not up to us. It has been a great ride and maybe someday it will be resurrected. I for one hope it does. |

Dan,
YOurs is not the kind of act I ever thought I would enjoy but when I saw you at WGM the first week of July I loved it. That show was the best of the four magic shows I saw that week. The others were good but WGM was the best. It is a shame that you guys are closing. What a great bargain. Pete |

The one good thing about it closing. Danny can get back to his tour of US preschools. What was that slogan again Dan? Scaring the bejesus out of America's youth, one lil ankle-biter at a time.

I don't know who Dan is but in that picture he looks like a slightly gentle honkified version of Prince.

Prrroooobably better that you don't -i personally don't like the guy much myself you're right he's a total Prince rip-off- I know there was one incident I heard of a few years ago when he was doing a gig and he had a dispute with the hotel so he let his doves fly all over his room deficating on everything and scattering seed everywhere.

Dan, I saw your show in early April of this year at WGMS and was very impressed. I was not expecting the dove magic and almost had forgotten about the Lifesaver routine. Hopefully, the WGMS can continue somewhere or be reconstituted sometime in the future.
