Hey guys, I'm a bit of a stand-up comedy junkie and am looking for some more stand-up dvds to get before I head out to college. Any favorites? (Or maybe one's you've seen lately that stuck out) I'm open to anything you would like!

Since you are clearly a bit of a holy roller try to find some of the old Mike Warnke material (and no whining from the "he made up stories when he told stories" crowd).

I second the Mike Warnke recommendation. Made up or not, he is an excellent story teller and one funny guy. I'm sorry I missed him when he was in Seattle.
A nut case? Not his fault. They never should have made him a medic when he served in Nam. You don't put a drug eating hippie in charge of the medical bag Iven

Bill Hicks will make you laugh your way right through the gates of he11!
over a decade old, still as cutting edge as it was back then... Not for the timid. For a less "controversial" laugh, I'd suggest anything by Steven Wright. "I spilled spot remover on my dog. Now he's gone."

For a "god-glorified" kind of guy ,Brian Regan is funny as hell and squeaky-clean. I've seen him live and listened to his CDs, and realized there is not a single curse word on any of his stuff. Well done!
Of course, at the other end of the spectrum, you can't go wrong with Carlin. His best 2, imo, are "You Are All Diseased" and "Jammin' In New York". Very dark, but I think his best work. Other faves- Mike Birbiglia- also pretty clean, occasional f-bomb. Jim Gaffigan- reasonably clean, very well-crafted material Daniel Tosh- edgier Patton Oswalt= even more so. Many standups now have combo CD/DVD sets out through Comedy Central- they'll sell the set for about 14 bucks at Best Buy. I never watch the DVDs, I listen to the CDs in my car. If you're into sketch comedy, pick up the complete "Mr. Show" box set. Awesome stuff on there... |

I found Tim Hawkins a little while ago (clean, Christian comedian), and I found some of his stuff funny. Someone referred him to me.
Unfortunately, I found him after he had done a show locally (missed him by a month or so), so I didn't get to see him live. Check out some of his samples on his site (Audio / Video section, and also in the Store section), for a taste of his style. He does parody songs (some Christian artists, some secular), as well as stand-up. I don't own any of his CDs or DVDs (yet), but I would buy them. - Donald

Are there any Satanic comedians? I mean, what is the value of a Christian comedian w/out having a Satanist to go up against?

This thread is going in a very disturbing direction, so I just thought I'd hijack it and give a heads up to "Mr. God-glorified" about an interesting article from a few years back about "jokes" in the bible including such items as:
Read it HERE by nationally syndicated columnist Cecil Adams. Enjoy!

MagicSanta-
No Satanists that I know of, but more than a few atheists. For example: David Cross Patton Oswalt Janeane Garafolo Adam Carolla George Carlin Billy Connolly Eddie Izzard Julia Sweeney I'm sure I'm missing a bunch, but that's a pretty top-notch group. I'll put the non-believers up against the believers any day when it comes to standup. |
