Good find Wade... very interesting! It really puts the girl inside that little box by showing the hands. This is sold by the fact that the b*** is very thin. Looks impossible.

The suspension looks great with the trestles and boards...the origami effect looks very deceptive..this guy has some nice thoughts on illusion.

Thanks for the link Wade. This guy has several interesting routines. I also liked the juggling pin suspension. His routine has elements of suspense and anticipation that most suspensions lack.

I would not encourage the guy, his Origami is a "Knock Off".

That's a shame Bill once again the copyists strike. I assumed he may have gotten permission from Jim Steinmeyer to work it in his own way...shame he is just ripping things off looks like he is into working in his own circus style to good response from his audiences

He is a perfomer from Arizona. His lovely assistant is Myryka and I think that he has made Origami better. Just my opinion. It is like the DC rip off (i mean improvement) to the Death saw. Good for him for being innovative. I have seen his show and he is great. Innovation 101 and a very entertaining show. Thanks Wade for sharing.

I can't agree that this is better at all, Byudad.
In fact, it is less deceptive. There are a lot of fine details that make Origami such a solid illusion, and I'm not simply referring to the concealment of the person inside.
It's all in the reflexes.

Illucifer,
You are right. I don't even think it is the origami at all. The idea of using a **** to conceal someone is not new or anyones to own. The hands are nice because it takes away the belief (if at all) that the **** is used to hide the assistant. Not better but definitely different and with a better twist. That is what I meant a better twist. I really like how he folds the sides down on the table. |

BYUDAD, that's exactly what I was thinking! I am glad this guy is doing something different, bringing new things (or ideas) into magic. I think we need more people like that.

I do like the wood look to the table though.

Chris,
Very classy and deceptive also. I aggree. If I were to ever buy an Origami I would want to design it differently with the builder (steinmeyer) as they are becoming very common nowadays. Something to set it apart from others. |

The more and more I watch this the better it gets. I like the table better because its not the typical magical black and chrome. Its a solid wood look, almost like a butchers block. Secondly, the hands make the illusion. Its a step up from the original. Listen to the audience gasp when the hands come out. Its sells the girl being in the box and you don't get that point with the original.
The stacking of the boxes onto the table gives a solid feel to the tabletop. Another small detail that sells the illusion. don't get me wrong, the original is one of my all time favorite illusions. But this one added what was missing. |

Princes Tenko does a hand coming out of the origami box.
The Majestix have a origami table that looks like a granite top. also a solid wood look base has been done before. So nothing new or different! certainly no big changes on the prop that would excuse him not to pay for the rights. The origami patent may have been expired but the origami is still the intellectual property of Jim Steinmeyer and if you want to perform this you still have to pay him for the rights! |

From looking at it, different mechanics (any?), different positioning, etc. Is it because it is a folding box? This was discussed previously in another thread as to how much change/modification is needed to result in a new illusion, and what is a new illusion? B

I tend to agree with you there Blair... I wouldn't even call this an Origami. It certainly doesn't look like the typical prop... different base, no mirror etc... even the folding of the box is not like an origami. The back of the box folds flat here instead of being folded into the box.
While Princess Tenko and the Majestix routines has those elements..hands coming out of the box etc... they are using them in conjunction with actual Origami props. I personally don't see this as a rip off but as their own unique creation. |
