Or you might take the view we are chipping away at "illusions" about him and his performance. I still think there is more to the story. Sean

I had one of the producers of AGT lie to my face at a private event and tell me no one on the show has ever had a pro contract in vegas . .Then I embarrassed them in front of their friends with info on Kevin James....ect....

WOW!
Excellent example of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. Don't ask, don't tell. What an ignorant statement! Sean

Okay I have to say something...
I think this guy is an idiot and I think he was trying to cover his mistake to save the illusion. I also think even if we the lay audience can tell something went wrong we really won't remember what that something was because we WILL remember how weird this guy was. I think if you own the illusion you will be fine after a short time. I'm not excusing this exposer I'm just stating my opinion, and here is why. I have a friend who has been performing illusion for a very long time. During the whole masked magician hoopla he tried an experiment with the zig zag illusion. It was exposed on national TV one night and on the next night my friend put it back in his show for several performances. He did this so he could asses the damages of the exposer. What he found was people did see it on TV and they did recognize it, but they were fooled when my friend did it because as my friend was told, "you did it in a different way then what was exposed on TV." The reality is he used the standard prop and a similar performance but the audience chose to suspend their disbelief and they perceived it as a different method. Now how does this apply here? Well if you own this illusion, I assume and really hope you will perform it properly. That alone will be enough, but wait there's more... I also understand that the most powerful part of the illusion was not even shown, or thankfully exposed on this show. Other then that I think this guy is a d0uc#3 and I hope he chooses a different career path other then animals, or magic. I would recommend crab fishing... now that would be good TV. Fitz

Hi Sean,
are there enough solid parts that require more than one snip ? I though once the first chip is cut, there is nothing left for further "chipping away". Richard |

FYI, there are angles here that have not been hit on. Without trying to sound scandalous, stick around. Sean

I agree with Sean at least some part. The illusion was revealed purposely. It started already with the girl movement when she went in the prop and moved her body to cover. What surprising me is Piers usually right away press the buzzer if something wrong or he doesn’t like it but now he was waiting until the end. The big question is why? I think he knew what will happen.

That is an excellent point. It is also interesting that the judges waited so long when Kevin James was on last year. It's pretty obvious.

I agree with Dixie, we shouldn't give him attention, that's what he wants.

No one has come forward with a reason as to why the producers would need to do such a thing. All they have to do is promote lack lustre and inept performers and they will provide plenty of out take moments themselves without the producers having to slip an extra something into their pay envelope. I also suspect that Mr. Martin's ego would preclude him from making a fool of himself on national television by throwing an illusion, especially the way he did it. If he was going to expose it intentionally wouldn't it have worked out so much better had he fessed up to the mistake and then pleaded with the judges to give him another try? Like most conspiracy theory's this one just doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Again, what is AGT's motivation for having David expose an obscure illusion? As to the judges not buzzing him off. He wasn't on the same stage as the judges. They clearly were watching him on a big screen TV so this was a prelim or elimination round that wasn't being viewed by an audience other than the judges and crew. Do they normally use the buzzers for this stage of the production?

Payne,
Is it strange Martin dropped the white sheet and one second later the girl dropped the black sheet accidentally. She could not see what happened in the front so she did not know David dropped the sheet. If she thought David pulled up the white sheet then why she tried to catch the black sheet? If she knew David dropped the front sheet why she released the black? Two accidents within a second just not right. Best, Las |

To me it looks like an amateurish mistake caused by too little rehearsal. Again no one has posted any motivation for AGT to purposely have Mr. Martin expose this illusion or any valid reason as to why Mr. Martin would be willing to do so. I'm sure he thought that he'd wind up in the finals as in his mind he's the greatest magician who ever lived. So why would he so willingly shoot himself in the foot and take himself out of the running by agreeing to expose an illusion?

Las,
The girl didn't drop the black sheet by accident! what happened was this: David pulls up the white roller blind and unfortunately he didn't lock it properly and it went down again, the girl didn't know that this has happened so she started to rip the piece of black art material away to get ready for the next part of the illusion... The reason the judges didn't buzz David was because in this round they are not supposed to use the buzzers! I guess some people are seeing ghosts! |

Well I feel that on the Dailymotion link at 1:13 she tried to catch the black sheet with her right hand but quickly pulled back. I don't think it was an accident. The guy who watched on TV was really surprised but the judges weren't. These TV shows are fixed.

I feel the same way every rtime I have to judge a magic competition. I'm sure Mr. Martin could have self ignited, flown around the theatre as a human comet and then returned to the stage safe and unharmed and they still would have sat there like stumps. Also don't forget they too were seeing the whole act on TV as well so that in itself would illicit a weaker response.

Las,
you wrote: "Well I feel that on the Dailymotion link at 1:13 she tried to catch the black sheet with her right hand but quickly pulled back. I don't think it was an accident." You might feel this way but this is not the case! She was doing the things she supposed to do. (I've worked with this illusion before so I know exactly what's going on) Payne, the judges where not watching this on tv, they where watching this while sitting in the theatre (only them, without a public) |
