I have it , it's well made, and it does what it says in the description.

I would have to disagree with David Todd. Unless there has been an upgrade or improvement it is not well made and it only barely does what it says in the description. It doesn't recommend using real coke but rather colored water and the seal or adhesive is pretty visible. I used to stock them in my store and 12 out of 12 were that way. In addition I was given one to review a few years ago and did so. My opinion hasn't changed. For some reason a few of Dave Powell's tricks just aren't well made. The card fountain he makes came apart the first day and even with three replacements it was just not meant to be and found a resting place in my trash can.
You could e mail the supplier and ask if this is a new version. If not I would advise against it. Sorry you have two diferent opinions on the same trick but use caution my friend. |

But if these problems are widespread then perhaps best to avoid this one unless you can find a dealer who will stand behind it and give you a money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied. As far as the criticism "does not use real coke but rather colored water " , well, of course , why not ? Does it bother you that the Milk Pitcher doesn't use real milk ? Real cola will get sticky and make the prop hard to clean . Some food coloring in water looks like Coke to the audience and will prevent the bottle from getting sticky. |

David Todd,
My comment on it not using real coke but rather colored water was more a statement of fact than criticism. Though I do see a lot of difference in colored water and coke. The Milk pitcher's fake Milk looks just like the real thing. With Ghost Bottle a good observer will notice the difference. I tried to demo this at the shop and was called on it a lot. However since I have never used a properly working model and have not tried one in the outside world to non magicians perhaps colored water would go unnoticed to the average spectator. Obviously it works for you and that's great. I am sure you got one of the good ones. Maybe all twelve I had were from a defective batch. Though since it appears Dave Powell gimmicked them by hand not machine that seems unlikely. Still I have had a lot of bad experiences with regard to the quality of Dave Powell's tricks. Perhaps he is doing a better job now of quality control as your bottle seems to be a lot better than the dozen I have used. I think I have a picture or two I can upload to show what I meant when I talked about the bad workmanship and the visible seal and workings. For me that made it unusuable but to each his or her own. I will go through my digital files and if I have one I will post it. |

The key with the liquid is to make it really dark. Actually cold coffee works fine. Experiment until you get it the same color as Coke. Up close a spectator might noticed the lack of carbonation , but from stage distance this is not a problem. However, it is also critical to wash out the bottle thoroughly after each and every performance so that the plastic doesn't get stained by the coffee or the food coloring in the water. (the same thing will happen with a milk pitcher if you're using red "Kool-Aid" in the pitcher instead of the fake milk. The food coloring will stain the pitcher if it's not washed out with some lukewarm water mixed with a very mild solution of bleach between performances . That is one of the drawbacks of sealed pitchers and glasses ... eventually the "milk" will turn brown and oily and the walls of the pitcher will start to have a brown, oily film . That's why it's best with a sealed pitcher if it has a hole with a plug which can be used to change out the liquid from time to time and to run some clean , lukewarm water through the prop to rinse it off . Always use just lukewarm water because very warm or hot water can loosen things that you don't want loosened. ) I've never really used it up close, so I think I would add the caveat that the Ghost Bottle is best used as a STAGE effect. |
