I did receive the Redefine Rings yesterday. I like the quality and weight. The only thing I dislike is "Redefine" stamped on each ring.

It will be hard for me to change because I have been performing that method for 20 years. "World' Greatest Magic" has a good DVD concerning Linking Ring methods by six performers, Jeff McBride, Aldo Colobimi, Dan Harlan, Al Schneider, Dan Fleshman and Dai Vernon. Chris Capehart has a great 3 Ring DVD. Jack Miller's Linking Ring Rountine is written by Bob Novak. Introduction by Jean Hugard. It shows a ring on rope method at the end. Thanks everyone. |

There is another book, much more detail, with several new approaches and many more details. That is the booklet I was referring to. Still can't recall the author, but he was a close friend of Miller. Also, if I recall correctly, there was an entire presentation in rhyme included... I'm not familiar with Dai Vernon's "8 ring method" - are you referring to his "Symphony of the Rings" with 6 rings? The engraving of the Redefine Magic Logo is only for this limited edition release of Pro Rings. There are only 50 of such sets made in the world and I am not intending to make any more in the near future. Thanks for the feedback again Jeremy |

The Chinese Linking Rings A Practical Approach by Bob White is also great. Also Jeff MrBride has some great stuff on his MrBride On Stage DVDS.

For my routine of the Chinese linking rings, I have been influenced by John Carney, a move from Shoot Ogawa and some subtleties I read in Tarbell.

When it comes to routines, the one I perform is based on Harry Anderson's routine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCPSZaeAulI&t=836s It's at 8:05.
I added a technique for freely showing the key from Dan Garrett's Ticklers And Teasers notes. I use a linking technique from Karrell Fox's AbraKFox. By the way, if you need to repair a plating chip, I used a Liquid Chrome paint marker made by Molotow. I just touched up a ring with it and it seems to be a perfect repair. |

I have free eBOOK on lybrary.com discussing the advantages of a "reverse ring" framing.
Several complete routines available also with more to come. This can completely change your approach and presentation - but only for 3-5" rings.

And let's face it , unless you are performing the rings close-up, who (other than another magician) would even notice the welds ? If you use an audience volunteer with you on stage when presenting the rings they might notice the welds if they look closely , but as a rule volunteers don't notice a lot as they stand with you on stage bedazzled by the glare of a spotlight , unless you point it out to them. The important part of having the spectator handle the rings is that they affirm for the rest of the audience that the rings are really solid rings. Close-up at a table is different, but even then if you do a good job of presenting the rings as each being a single solid ring (which is the illusion which must be created) then it doesn't matter. Magicians seem to obsess over certain things (magician's guilt ?) such as visible welds in rings. Would I prefer to have a set of "perfect" Owen or Proline rings ? Sure. If I were making a steady income performing magic professionally I would probably invest in a set. At this point in my life I'm a hobbyist who occasionally performs. I had some beautiful Rings and Things linking rings years ago when I was a teenager performing shows for money in my high school days and on in to my early 20's during college, but sold them along with many other props when I drifted away from magic for a time. (of course, now I regret selling them!) But now I'm revisting the rings. I picked up an inexpensive set of Royal or Adams 8" rings on eBay. Yes, the welds are visible (if you are obsessively looking for welds). But after reading Paul Chosse's post I am not going to worry about the welds. . |

These two columns can also be found reprinted in Mike's book 'The Complete Mike Rogers'. "Poor Man's Locked Key" is also published in 'Arcade Dreams' by Jon Racherbaumer and Ed Marlo. For those who aren't aware - I created a Reference Guide to the Linking Rings available here: https://magicref.net/magref/maglinkr.htm
It lists Books, videos, and products related to the Linking Rings. Some of the products are historical and no longer available unless you find them used. I see I need to make another update as there are some rings listed in this thread that I don't have listed. Also, for some of the other guides I started listing Magazine references - that will take some time if I ever get around to it! Hope this helps. Doug Atkinson https://www.magicref.net |

Hi Funsway, the listings would include ebooks as well, it's not particular to the format. Certainly the guide isn't fully complete, and while I've added a few resources in the past few years, it hasn't been majorly updated since 2019.

Imagine routines where all of the rings get into spectator hands, and chain displays with full view of all rings and even changing hands. Thanks to a suggestion by Michael O'Brien, I have "Holy Grail" sequences where rings are retrieved from spectators, linked and immediately handed back out. Wish I did not have to work on the house too, but my HVAC just went out. Sigh!
