Do you think an African Grey or an Amazon parrot will show up beter on stage? I am talking about magically producing them from a production box or table load of some sort.I see most magician usually produce a macaw or a cockatoo.
I was thinking of producing them magically and then going into their routine. Any advice will be deeply appreciated. Thanks.

Obvioulsy the larger the parrot the better it will show up. Being that most backdrops are dark in color, a light colored parrot will usually show up better. Also, white is a deceptive color and gives the illusion of the bird being bigger than it really is. Perhaps this is why doves are so popular with magicians.

The stage lighting is very important too. Puck uses a Cockatoo: http://www.puckmagic.com/ Ice McDonald uses a Macaw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1YvthSF_Lw&feature=related

You should see the kind of bird Gen. Grant uses. Some call it a Portugese Pigeon. Some say it is a King Dove or Giant Runt. His bird looks big like this: http://www.royalfibers.com/pigeons.htm

Hi maps,
In my experience, African Greys are stage shy. Amazons are better for stage work. I find them better talkers when trained to talk on command.

Tks for chipping in Tito Lou.
I am talking to a lot of breeders and parrot owners and it can be quite a challenge choosing a particular breed.Wow,amazons are quite expensive here! I agree that they are better talkers.Which ones are better?... the blue fronted or the double yellow? or are there others? Dynamike, those are big birds!!! Almost like a chicken! How's yr cuckatoo going?

As for talkers, both the blue fonted and double yellow heads are the best. But I prefer the Double Yellow Head which I used to have. Also, the males are better talkers. Get them when they are fully weaned. Yes, they are expensive. Some macaw breeds are cheaper like the blue and gold macaws.
I find the best parrot pets are the ones that talk. Problem is the talkers are the nippiest of them all. You have to get used to their little bites. As for me, I enjoy it.

Parrots? Have a look at Laura, the silver campine chook! She and Gregory the golden campine rooster are my favourites. Plus, my kids love chasing them around the backyard too. They're easy to look after and show up well on stage. However, I've never tried any body loads.
Don't get even... Get odd!
