Hello this is my first post on your side of town. I use a real rabbit in my magic shows. I was wondering if anyone know of any books/DVDs where I can use my rabbit to do comedy stunts/tricks as a puppet. Thank you.

Hi Dynamike,
You helped once before with my Proline Dove Carrousel routine Thanks Im afraid I don't know anything abot books concerning live rabbit stunts...but I did see someone trying to make a rabbit sleep If you are interested in adding puppets in your act with no ventriloquism required, I can make a "Custom Rabbit in a Hat" for you Not the usual rabbit in a hat of course...let me make something special for you... Thanks Wanlu

Mike -
Excuse me for sounding confused - but are you trying to do the tricks/stunts with a live rabbit - or turn the live rabbit into a puppet to do the tricks, then possibly change him back? Stunts/tricks with a puppet are one thing - live animals another. If you want to train the live rabbit - give a call to Denny Haney at Denny & Lee's and ask him what books are available on the subject. He knows books! I remember Hal Diamond of D.C. (now deceased) used to have his rabbit do all kinds of trained stunts. Puppets are much easier to train! |

Thank you Wanlu. If I ever start using puppets I will surely come to you first. I hope you are keeping up with your highly quality Proline Dove Carrousel routine.
Tom, please excuse me for not putting it clear. I do make a rabbit appear in my act. All she does is sits there. I want to make the act more colorful dealing with comedy tricks/stunts with the bunny. For example: Chris Capehart picks up his bunny and places the Miser's Dream bucket underneath. He makes it sounds as if coins are coming out the rabbit's bottom. It gets a lot a laughs. Another one he does with his rabbit is have the rabbit find a chosen card. Another one he does is rub a card on his bunny to have the card change. He places comedy lines with the tricks too. I want to find out more ideas how I can add different comedy effects like Chris Capehart. For example, place the Lota Bowl underneath the rabbit to make it look as she had to go to the bathroom several times throughout the show. So I thought there could be some good comedy effects you guys use puppets for, I can probably do my rabbit (but nothing like turn his head from side to side). Thanks guys. |

Gotcha. Having a real rabbit find a selected card is a fairly common effect with many possible methods and routines. I use to do one where the rabbit went into a box, the deck of cards was thrown in and the rabbit supposedly looked through the deck to find the chosen card. A card fountain was employed to toss the cards out of the box - a very good visual - and when I removed the rabbit, I pulled a chewed up duplicate of the chosen card out with it.
I'm sure you'll think of others - just use Chris' ideas as a starting point and figure how to twist them into something unique for you! Good luck. |

Yes, that is a great idea with the Card Fountain. I can also pull out the chewed up card looking angry as if he went to far. I bet it will get a lot of laughs. Thanks, I would of never thought of that one.

Hi Dynamike,
I'll hold a Rabbit in Hat for your future needs As for the Proline Dove Carrousel, I had to sell it real cheap, well at least cheaper than the price I got it I don't use live animals in my act anymore. But the idea you gave was a killer Thanks again. Wanlu

One of the funnisest routines I ever saw with a live rabbit, was the WRABBIT WRINGER Made by Abbotts. The magician had two side table set up with a wrabbit wringer on each table. he had a sign on each with the word FAX CHICAGO on one, and FAX NEW YORK on the other, printed in large type so audience could read it.
He put the live rabbit in the one wringer and cranked the handle( this unit didn't have the Flat felt rabbit in it.) Then the stage darkened and a flicker light unit came on and he had some static electricity sounds coming through his sound system. Then the stage lights came back on and an assistant dressed like a magician in top hat and cape, came on stage from the opposite side,to the other wringer and cranked , and of course the flat felt rabbit came out of the " FAX" machine..He had faxed a rabbit to another magician who needed a rabbit in an emergency, ( as his patter went on to say) It was hilarious and a real crowd pleaser. maybe you could use this type of act, modified to what you would like for your show.
